ANTONIO PETRILLO July 30, 1934 - February 21, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father and grandfather, Antonio Petrillo on February 21, 2018. Antonio left behind his loving wife of 56 years, Angela Petrillo; daughter, Emily (Brent) Rempel; grandchildren, Joe (Nicole) Rempel, Christopher Rempel and Brandon Rempel; brother, Peter Petrillo; sister, Maria (Luigi) D'Abramo; sister-in-law, Lina Petrillo; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Teresa and Tony Lamorte; brother-in-law, Nick D'Abramo; and his many special nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Tony Petrillo Jr., mother and father, Emilia and Rocco Petrillo, brother, Renaldo Petrillo, sister-in-law, Mariatella Petrillo, nephew, Peter Petrillo, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Maria and Emilio D'Abramo, and sister-in-law, Terry D'Abramo. Antonio, or Tony as everyone called him, was born July 30, 1934 in Italy. He was a hard working man who first moved from Italy to Canada December 23, 1958, at the young age of 25, where he met, fell in love and married his beautiful wife Angela. After getting married, he found work at a leather factory sewing various leather products including saddles for horses. After working there for a few years, Tony, along with his wife Angela, owned and operated three separate grocery stores throughout the next 30 years of their marriage. Tony had many talents and could do many things even with his limited education. He hated to spend extra money if he didn't have to, especially with home repairs. He was a very handy man who could fix almost anything even if he didn't have the proper tools. Instead of purchasing the proper tool or part to do the repair, he would try to make one out of whatever he could find around the house. He was so proud of himself for being able to save some money by doing things without having to hire someone else to do the work. He even went as far as painting his car himself with a foam roller brush that he bought at Home Depot, instead of getting it painted professionally. He saved money and it actually looked pretty good. Tony loved having his family come over on the weekends to visit with. He always took the time to find out how his grandkids were doing and what was new in their lives. He also enjoyed when his nieces and nephews would come by and visit him and loved being able to play a game of cards every Saturday night with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He looked forward to seeing his family all the time and said many times that his grandkids could sleep over at his house whenever they didn't feel like travelling home, if the weather was bad or if it was too late to travel. The family would like to thank all the caring nurses and doctors at the St. Boniface Hospital for all they did to keep Tony comfortable during the last couple of weeks. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Tony, you will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing that you will now be rejoined with your son, brother, mom and dad and all the other family members you were so close to. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Viewing and Condolences will take place at 10:00 a.m. and Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Entombment will follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum, Green Acres Memorial Gardens, #1 Highway East at Navin Road. • I am so sorry to hear about Tony. My mum worked for Tony and Angela for years at their store on Airlies. Such a lovely, kind man. I remember ice cream sale days when he practically had to run for cover! He was the best butcher ever. I loved their store. Those little corner stores were the best, and their demise were the end of an era. My thoughts are with you and your family, Angie. Take care, Lesley - Posted by: Lesley (Symaka) Senior (Old friend) on: Feb 28, 2018
