GEORGE (GEORGES) JOSEPH PIERRE CHOUINARD March 23, 1948 - February 25, 2018 It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend George Chouinard on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 69 years. George will be sadly missed by his two children Jerome Chouinard and Celeste (Allan) Hnatiuk; two granddaughters Madelyn and Mikaela; sisters Celine (Paul) Fillion and Jeanette (Raymond) Mulaire; brothers Maurice Chouinard and Robert Chouinard; brother-in-law Lucien Lussier; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by parents Josaphat Chouinard in 1984 and Rose Chouinard (nee Dionne) in 1998; brother Martial Chouinard in 1955 and sister Germaine Lussier in 2017. George was born in St. Boniface on March 23, 1948, the youngest of seven children, and grew up in St. Pierre Jolys on his family farm. After attending hair dressing school in Estevan, Saskatchewan, he owned and operated J.P.'S Hairstyling located on Portage Avenue from 1971 - 1994 until changing career paths to numerous handyman and caretaking positions, until finding his way to becoming a Shop Technician at Pyrene Fire Security from 1999 to his retirement in 2013. George was an ambitious and hardworking man who you would rarely find sitting still for long. When visiting George you would find him knee deep pulling weeds from his garden, puttering around his property repairing something, planning his next big venture, or heading off on a bike ride. George also enjoyed attending the weekly Adventures pool league at Flea Whiskeys. His most recent project was building a mobile "tiny house" built on a custom trailer base which he intended to sell. Funeral service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. in Winnipeg. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • It is with great sadness that I discovered George had passed. George and I had many laughs together for many years. He always could stir things up at the old Pal. Oh! The stories! The memories! Although for a number of years, with my departure from Winnipeg, we had not spoken, it was such a pleasure to reconnect with him sometime in early 2017. I tried to reach him for a visit in both the summers of 2017 and 2018 without being able to reach him. Today, as I tried again, something struck me that I should check the internet. George was a man of strong opinion. I may not have always seen eye to eye with him, but in all our experiences and discussions one TRUTH was certain. That was his pride and love for Jerome and Celeste. You can be certain of that. My deepest condolences. He does live on in memories. Cliff - Posted by: Clifford Mertick (Friend) on: Dec 03, 2018
