JOAO SOARES Joao Soares was born in Sao Miguel Azores on February 3, 1938 and passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on March 7, 2018, in West St. Paul, MB. Joao was predeceased by his parents, Manuel and Carolina Soares, and his younger brother Manuel Jr., as well as his loving wife Maria Leonilde Soares. Joao will be deeply missed by his daughters, Connie (Michel), Maria (Art), Carolina (Phil) and Susie (Jason); along with his grandchildren, Calum, Nicole, Nora, Luke and Erik. Joao and Maria Leonilde were teenage sweethearts, they later married on April 23, 1964 and spent 48 years happily creating a loving life together. They immigrated to Canada in 1972, with their three daughters and welcomed a fourth daughter in Canada. Dad's greatest joy was his family. Our mom was the love of his life and dad was heartbroken when mom passed away in 2012. Our dad was a man of integrity, his word was his bond and we could always count on him. While we will miss dad dearly, we take comfort in knowing that dad is now reunited with his soulmate in heaven. Thank you to the pallbearers, Gerald Boisvert, Calum Boisvert, Arthur Jordan, Phillip Thomas, Jason Stevens and Jose Medeiros. Also thank you to father Andre Lico. Prayers and funeral service in English and Portuguese will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Portuguese Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin St. North, followed by burial at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave.
