SHIRLEY ATKINSON September 9, 1931 - March 25, 2018 Surrounded by love in her 87th year, the strongest woman we know, Shirley Isabel Atkinson (nee Ferguson), left us on March 25, 2018 at Trillium Health Centre - Mississauga Site. Cherished wife of William; adored mother of William (Kristina), Michael (Zina), Andrew (Janine), and Kathleen (Martin); and sassy grandmother to Jessica, Hayley, Cassidy, Ryan, Samantha, Emily, Amanda and Liam. Beloved surrogate mother to many, especially Patricia Moroz and Allan Paul. Through 57 years of an incredibly loving marriage, Bill and Shirl had a great time accumulating wonderful memories and life-long friends. Family and friends were their priority, and there were a lot of them. Shirley, one of nine children, grew up on a farm in Dugald, Manitoba. She pursued her love of helping people to become a Registered Nurse, and was always the family medical expert. Shirley and Bill married June 30, 1960 and quickly filled their home with four children, in five years. Their life together led them from Manitoba to California, settling in Mississauga, and the same home for 50 years. Her greatest joy was sharing time with family whether that was over dinner, weekend getaways or frequent trips back to Manitoba to maintain the connection to those separated by distance. She was a sassy, feisty Grandma that enjoyed a flight in a glider in her 70s and zip-lining with her grandchildren in her 80s. We can only imagine what trouble she is causing now! Visitation will take place at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga (Hwy. 10 N. of QEW), Ontario on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army (Mississauga) or the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Online condolences may be made at www.turnerporter.ca
