RICHARD LLOYD WELLS September 29, 1927 - March 24, 2018 With sadness we announce the passing of Richard (Dick) Wells. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Katherine Wells (Sivyer) and his first wife Doris Wells (Taylor). Dick is survived by his current wife Ena, daughter Donna Wells of Dick and Doris, son-in-law Jim Paton and his pride and joy, his grandchildren, Quinn, Sean, Brenna and Reilly. Also mourning his passing are Ena's daughter Asha Pereira (Grant Edwards) and stepgrandchildren, Sydney, Logan, Ally, Veronica and Marlo. Dick was born and raised on Leila Street in West Kildonan. Although an accomplished hockey player he played with the likes of Billy Mosienko, he chose to become a concert pianist and developed a love for Barbershop singing. Beginning in 1953, he joined the Golden Chordsmen in Winnipeg and went on to become their director and then moved to do the same with the Chimo Chordsmen in Saskatoon. He also loved arranging music for the choirs. He also taught music at Stony Mountain Penitentiary and was part of Schmockey Night. Over the years Dick collected many awards and accolades including Barbershopper of the Year. Dick worked for CN Rail from 1946 to 1992 in the claims department, first in Winnipeg and then transferred to Saskatoon. Dick enjoyed travelling and one of his favourite places was Victoria, BC. A couple of highlights was travelling with his dad to England and doing a tour of Germany during Oktoberfest with his Barbershop Quartet. A favourite memory of Donna's as a young girl was driving around with Dad in West Kildonan. He would point out where all his friends lived when he was young and how West Kildonan had changed over the years. A Celebration of Life service was held on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306-244-5577.
