VIOLET SUSANNE (ROBERTSON) GREER
Date of Passing: Mar 28, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLET SUSANNE (ROBERTSON) GREER 1928 - 2018 At 11:30 p.m. on March 18, 2018, Maundy Thursday Eve, one month short of her 90th birthday, Violet Susanne Greer, beloved wife/mother/nana to husband J. Lawrence Greer of 65 years, her three children, John (Toronto, ON), Donald (Kelowna, BC) and Nancy (and partner Rob Davidson) and her grandson Stefan Keith, passed peacefully in her sleep at her Middlegate home. She battled esophageal cancer for a few short months bravely and with good humour and unflagging spirits to the very end. Her immediate family and beloved family dog Sunny Girl were all close at hand for her passing. Her wish to spend her last days at home was made possible with the superb assistance of Carol and all of the WRHA Palliative Care team to whom the family is most grateful. Heartfelt thanks as well to all who sent her food, flowers, best wishes and love in her last days. She has requested no funeral. The family will hold a special celebration of her life in coming weeks. All who knew "Sue" will miss her kindness, warmth, generosity, engaged eloquence and selfless thoughtfulness. Born of Scottish immigrant parents, her childhood growing up with four siblings in Selkirk, MB was a joyous one and the Greers and Robertsons remain deeply connected. Having grown up a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church in Selkirk she and her new family later became active members of First Presbyterian Church in Winnipeg for many years. She attended the University of Winnipeg and met husband Larry when they were both working for the Foundation Company. Thus began the love affair that was to prove so fruitful and enduring and Larry proposed in Churchill, MB. Many mid-winters were spent escaping to Acapulco, Mexico and other points south with family and friends and her love of travel brought her worldwide with husband Larry on both business trips and holidays. She loved photography and the performing arts and encouraged her family to express themselves these ways, participating however she could. She loved receiving company and especially lit up every time her grandson Stefan visited. As the backbone of her loving family, she will be sorely missed but how fortunate we all are to have known her and loved her for so long. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Winnipeg Public Library Foundation with a footnote directed to the Cornish Branch in memory of Susanne Greer, one of Sue's favourite neighbourhood institutions, to which she was a frequent visitor. Dream with me tonight, Tonight and ev'ry night Wherever you may chance to be We're together if we dream the same sweet dream, And though we may be far apart, Keep me in your heart and dream with me.
