DARRELL JOHN WILSON
Born: Apr 19, 1954
Date of Passing: Mar 29, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDARRELL JOHN WILSON With heartfelt sadness we wish to tell you Darrell passed away on March 29, 2018 after a brief, tough battle with Cancer. Darrell was born in Winnipeg on April 19, 1954. Darrell was predeceased by his father, Jack (John Ingram) Wilson and his mother, Molly (Sarah Mary) Wilson. He is survived by his brother David, sister-in-law Janice, his niece and nephew, Rachael and Edward Wilson and their four children. Darrell grew up in the Windsor Park area of Winnipeg. After high school, Darrell split his time between Winnipeg and Vancouver before settling back in Winnipeg. He was a lifelong salesman and ended up running his own company, the Wilson Sales Agency. For fun he moonlighted from his own company as a river tour boat captain out of a tour service at The Forks. Darrell liked to keep his life simple. That said he had many avocations. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, skiing and playing "old man" hockey in the winter, boating, fishing, riding his bike and playing golf in the summer. He loved summer "lake life" and was a fixture for years at both West Hawk and Granite. He was an avid reader, movie buff and music lover. He enjoyed cooking, wine, his rum and was a frequent guest at the famous dinner gatherings at Leo's. He was a good friend to many and always willing to help others be it as a handyman or just a good friend. He will be missed in more ways than he understood while he was with us. In celebration of his life, the family are hosting an old fashioned Irish Wake on Thursday, April 5 at Cibo Waterfront Café between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. If you considered him your friend and have a story to share, please join us. If you want to make a donation in his name, please do so to the cancer charity of your choice. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

I think of you often and how much you made me laugh when we were together. You played the BEST music when we were out at the lake. As time goes by only the special people that warm the heart are truly missed. Darrell I am pretty confident that you are making all the angels giggle too! Thinking of you! - Posted by: pamela wlock (friend) on: Jul 02, 2022

I’m sitting here on May 1, 2018 watching the TV show Fargo and I’m thinking how the lead actor looks so much like Darrel. The same actor who played song in Breaking Bad. So I took a chance and typed Darrell Wilson Winnipeg into Google and this is the first thing that comes up. I’m shocked and horribly saddened. Don McCaffrey, Darrell, Brian and I were partners in a cottage rental at West Hawk Lake for several years. The memories are just too many to recount but they were all great memories. I never had a bad word with Darrell. He was one of my best friends and I’m proud to say that he made the trip to Ottawa to be a part of my wedding. Darrel was the hit of the wedding. The night before the wedding he and the bridesmaids hit a bar and the story goes that Darrel did flaming Zambuca bellybutton shots on the bar. Darrell and I were roommates in Winnipeg for a couple of years. The highlight was a Christmas party that we threw where the four of us from the summer cottage all wore tuxedos. The party went all night then led to breakfast at Salisbury house then lead us to a boat store where we impulsively bought the motor boat that Don referenced in his memory. Darrel and I moved to Vancouver together in 1978 and rented a house there. When I bought a house in East Vancouver Darrell and I moved to that one and then to another one before I was transferred to England. I left Darrell behind to take care of the house while I was trying to sell it. I got a phone call from a friend telling me that Darrell had decided to dig in the backyard and build a hot tub To install a hot tub. Needless to say that wasn’t part of my plan. But it was just Darrell being Darrell. Darrell lived hard, partied harder and was a best friend to many people. I loved you Darrell. The world seems like an emptier place now because I’ll never have a chance for a reunion with Darrell. Our last reunion was probably over 10 years ago and it was a party at West Hawk of course. I always wondered if we could ever pull it off again. We can’t. There are many people who will miss Darrell — George, Don, Gill, Grant, Brian. I loved you Darrell. - Posted by: Dennis Mooney (Friend) on: May 01, 2018

I always looked forward to seeing Darrell, usually at West Hawk Lake. He made every day brighter and every event, just that much more fun. We will miss you Pal! - Posted by: Fred Smith (Friend) on: Apr 04, 2018

Darrell and I were roomies in the "Low Livery" at Westhawk. Condolences to David, family and all Darrell's good friends in the Peg. The stories are legendary and have been retold many times. Coming from a particularly exciting sauna at the Arnold's, Wils ran over the same rock with our boat for a second time. Trailering the boat to Sampson's for emergency repair, an entire trunk load of holiday beer went AWOL during a beer strike. And finally taking that same boat for a midnight cruise with a lovely friend Wils literally saved our lives when, upon return to the Low Livery, Wils took the time to look up and see the fire had jumped from the acorn fireplace onto the wall. Whenever I think of your brother, uncle, friend I will think of a man who laughed easily and brought much joy to those who knew him. RIP Darrell. I will toast you Thursday. - Posted by: Don McCaffrey (Friend) on: Apr 04, 2018

I will always remember Darrell as a good friend and room mate. I moved into Darrell's place in River Heights and we had a heck of a time for a couple of years...visited a bunch of local pubs and restaurants, partied on Montrose , made homemade wine and beer...not so well I fear. I will miss his humour and good spirit. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Glenn Bampton - Posted by: Glenn Bampton (Friend) on: Apr 03, 2018
