THERESE SIMONNE FORTIN It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Therese Fortin, at J. Henri Charbonneau Nursing Home in Montreal, QC, on March 9, 2018. She was predeceased by her father Victor Fortin, mother Gratia Fortin (Laurendeau), brother Roland Fortin, and sister-in-law Betty Fortin. Left to cherish her memory are her two nephews, Roland (Lois) Fortin, Robert (Tannis) Fortin and families. Therese was born January 10, 1926 in Longueuil, QC. Her family moved to Manitoba in 1930. Therese had many fond memories of her childhood growing up in the St. Boniface area and enjoyed the time spent at Winnipeg Beach when the family rented a cabin each summer for a holiday. Therese started her career in Winnipeg with D'Eschambalt Insurance, then Great West Life, where she would walk to and from work, fostering a love for walking that kept her "young at heart" into her later years. Therese later moved to Montreal with her mother, where she worked as a translator with the federal government until retirement. Therese shared her life with her mother, lovingly caring for her until her passing in 1977. In retirement, Therese loved to read and listen to classical music. She also enjoyed visits to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and leisurely pursued her interest in the arts by taking courses offered at university. Therese took many trips to Europe, particularly regions in France, Belgium and Spain, where she could observe and enjoy the many churches and museums of the area. Therese was a very active, independent and private person. She never wanted to impose on anyone, but when on occasion she needed help, was always grateful for any assistance. That gratitude was felt by everyone when assisting her with the challenges she faced with Alzheimer's disease over the course of the last few years. The family would like to express their thanks for the support and care Therese received from good friend Ghislaine Roy. Therese appreciated all the visits and outings with Ghislaine, especially the trips to the Botanical Gardens. Special thanks to Jacqueline and Guy Chabbert and Suzanne Dussault who were always there for Therese in Montreal as well as providing support and assistance to the family living in Winnipeg. Words cannot describe our gratitude to the four of you. The family also thanks the first floor staff at Elogia for the care she received during her stay there. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held on April 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Cote-des-Neiges Funeral Centre, 4525 chemin de la Cote-des-Neiges, Montreal, QC followed by interment.
