JOSEPHINE (JO) CHURCHWARD (nee ENGLOT) It is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of Jo Churchward on Thursday, March 29, 2018, at the age of 89. Jo will be forever loved and her memory held dear by her family including her husband of 62 years, Reg; daughters, Sandra (Clay) and Carol; daughter-in-law Lisa; grandchildren Ryan (Samantha) and Mark, Kyle and Emily; brother Alec, sisters, Jeannie (Stephen), Francis, Betty, Violet, Rosemarie; sisters-in-law, Joan, Anne (Keith), Doris and brother-in-law Ian (Cathy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Jo was predeceased by her parents, William and Sophia Englot; stepmother Marianna Englot; brothers, Joe and John Englot; and sister Carrie Naumann. The loss of her son Neil to cancer in 2010 was devastating to Jo, but she kept him in her heart and made sure he was not forgotten. Raised in Beausejour, MB, Jo went on to become a nurse, graduating in 1954 from the St. Boniface School of Nursing before working for many years at several Winnipeg hospitals. She made many lifelong friends through nursing and often attended nurses' reunions where she shared in the camaraderie and laughter. She was an avid gardener, instilling a love of flowers and all things green in her daughters and now granddaughter. The house was never without fresh flowers in summer picked from her garden. Talented in both sewing and quilting, many of her handmade quilts are on display in her home and those of her family. Mom enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of a "ladies bridge club" for over 50 years. Jo loved spending time at the family cottage at Ghost Lake, ON. She loved lake life, feeding the hummingbirds, listening to loons and reading on the deck overlooking the water. Her family holds many fond memories of mom sun tanning at the top of the hill or floating on the raft with her kids and close family. Jo made her house a home with her kindness, generosity, love of music and baking. She loved hosting family suppers, never missing a holiday celebration or a chance to gather family around the table. She was a proud grandma who loved her grandchildren with all her heart. She leaves a void in our lives, but we will hold her forever in our hearts. "And the night shall be filled with music, And the cares, that infest the day, Shall fold their tents, like the Arabs, And as silently steal away." By Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, from The Day is Done Cremation has taken place, to be followed by a private interment at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A celebration of Jo's life will be held at a later date.
