Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOYCE VERNA LILLIAN BOOKER December 28, 1929 - April 3, 2018 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Joyce (Joy) Verna Lillian Booker at the Chinook Care Centre Hospice, in Calgary, at the age of 88. Joy will be forever remembered by her three children, Tim, Greg (Angie), and Wendy (Dan); grandchildren, Holly, Evan, Renée and Connor; brother John; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends across the country. Joy was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Mary Bird, her sister Hilda, her former husband Earl, and her birth parents, John and Daisy Lonsdale. Joyce was born in Toronto, growing up in the city's west-end. Her favourite childhood memories were the summers spent at Wasaga Beach with her large extended family. Joyce started working at the Imperial Bank of Canada (now the CIBC) at the age of 17, where she met her husband Earl. They married in 1950, and the birth of her son Tim followed in 1954. Earl's work brought them to Winnipeg in 1960, where she spent the next 38 years, raising her children, now three in total following the birth of Greg and Wendy in 1965 and 1967 respectively. Joyce led a vibrant life in Winnipeg, working for many years at the CIBC branch at Polo Park, and becoming active in her church community at St. Peter's Anglican Church. Her most cherished memories of her Winnipeg years were that of participating in St. Peter's pub nights, going to Blue Bomber games, spending summers at the lake in Redditt and attending Folklorama every year. In 1998, Joy as she now wished to be called, followed her children to Calgary, and that is where she spent her happiest years. Whether it was spending time with her children and grandchildren, going to Theatre Calgary, volunteering at the Kerby Centre, traveling, watching CFL football games, or spending time with her good friends at the Fountains of Mission Retirement Residence, her home for the past eight years, Joy embraced life and everyone she met along the way. Joy's passion was for music, and she found great happiness nurturing this passion as a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church choir. Joy's family would like to thank the care teams at Foothills Hospital (Stroke Unit) and Chinook Care Centre Hospice for the wonderful care they gave our mother over the past few months. A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, (1121 - 14th Ave. SW) on Monday, April 9, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Donations if desired, may be directed to the Foothills Hospital Stroke Foundation (https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/fmc/) or the Chinook Care Hospice (https://www.ahpca.ca/hospices-intercare-chinook-hospice/ ). Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.edenbrookcemetery.ca Arrangements entrusted to: EDEN BROOK FUNERAL HOME AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 24223 Twp Rd 242, Calgary, AB, T3Z 3K2

Tim, Greg and Wendy, I was saddened to read of your Mom's passing. I remember her laugh and sparkle as she shared time with my parents, Neil and Alice Macpherson, as well as Bill and Doris Ternowetsky. There was always lots of fun when these friends gathered in one another's homes. As a teenager I enjoyed watching the antics. Your Mom's love and committment to raising you three gave her much happiness. She was resilient and found hope and joy even when life was hard. I am sure you will miss her. She left a strong legacy of how to live life fully. Charlotte - Posted by: Charlotte Lazaruk (Friend) on: Apr 12, 2018

Dear Tim, Greg & Wendy, I was saddened to read of your mom's passing. I met your mom during my years working at CIBC in Polo Park. Although it was a large branch, the staff loved to share a joke or two and were always up for a good laugh. She had such a wonderful sense of humor and a laugh that reverberated throughout the branch. She was so proud of the three of you and spoke of you often. We can never prepare for the loss of a parent. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this difficult time. Sincerely, Val Bishop - Posted by: Val Bishop (CIBC co-worker) on: Apr 07, 2018
