RICHARD PAUL PAULUSMA Surrounded by love, Richard Paul Paulusma, took his last breath on April 1, 2018. Richard was born in Winnipeg on October 23, 1953. He was predeceased by his mother Verna, his father Paul, and his beloved cats Felix and Sylvester. He is survived by his three brothers: George (Merle), Dave (Liz) and Tim (Colleen), and his three sisters Sylvia Hilton (Les), Jane VanLeewen (Roel) and Mill (Ed Schoniger). He is also survived by numerous nieces and great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews, many friends and relatives who he loved dearly. Rick was a huge fan of the Jets and Bombers. He loved to fish and camp and proudly displayed his Master Angler bass. He worked most of his life at Gateway Publishing / Plasticoil where he was treated like family. Many happy childhood memories were made on the mean streets of Transcona. Rick was famous for his booming voice and unfailing stubbornness. He lived out his final year with grace and courage, and with his famous stubbornness lived much longer than predicted. In his final year he continued to loudly cheer on the Bombers and the Jets. He enjoyed get-well gifts and good wishes like a child at Christmas. He treated his illness like he treated his life: he called the shots. Rick believed in Heaven and Heaven will certainly be much louder now. He is probably arguing with the angels and debating with the disciples. But for some of us, whether our sports teams triumph or fail, a big fish is landed or lost, or when a memory of his life and how he would throw back his head in laughter, the silence will be deafening. Farewell Rick "Paul Paul" Paulusma. A Celebration of Life will be held in the lower hall of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 401 Kildare Ave. West on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. In honour of Rick feel free to wear a Winnipeg sports shirt, hoodie or jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or CancerCare Manitoba. Funeral arrangements entrusted to: Chad Wheeler Funeral Director 204-890-4700

I am so deeply sorry to hear about Rick. Who was Rick to me? He was that loud guy on the midnight shift with a comb in the back of his pocket who loved to play pro line, (and I was intimidated by him at first, I was only 19). But soon I would get to know him and love to bug him :). He would come up to everyone to show them his almost wins, his wins, and his losses. What I loved talking to Rick most about was his Las Vegas trips, and about how crappy the US dollar always was and saving money!! There was always something in the newspaper to keep the midnight conversations going. I remember he loved his coffee, always at work early to make sure there was coffee and to chat with his coworkers. Even though I haven't worked with Rick for quite some time, I will fondly remember him from my gateway days. Rick, I bet you are up there talking everyones ear off, telling them about the Jets, and Bombers! RIP Rick. - Posted by: Carrie kull (CoWorker) on: Apr 07, 2018
