He was also an enthusiastic member and volunteer with the Deutsche Vereinigung von Winnipeg through much of his adult life and a long-time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Cross. - Posted by: Christel u. Dieter Esser (Cousin) on: Apr 11, 2018

Dear Alice and Family, We share your loss. I have fond memories of chit-chatting with you and Arnold at various extended Schmidtke family gatherings. Also it was a pleasure to work with Arnold at the Labatt's plant during my 3 months of student summer employment circa 1975. Arnold briefed me on some of the plant perks...example - " We don't drink coffee at coffee breaks - it's Labatt's Blue !!! " To this day, BLUE is still my go to beer. Arnold - RIP. - Posted by: George and Svitlana Schmidtke (cousin) on: Apr 09, 2018

Dear Alice and family, I am sad to hear of Arnold’s death. I have warm memories of you both during my time at Lutheran Church of the Cross and of your faithfulness in worshipping regularly. I can see you in your favourite pew on the pulpit side in the sanctuary and I will forever appreciate your support and encouragement. God is with you as you grieve. We have God’s promise through Jesus that not even death will separate Erwin from God’s love and grace. Peace be with you.
