The youngest of eight children, she was born in Fisher Branch, MB. Graduating from teacher's college in Winnipeg in 1956, she soon after began a lengthy teaching career. She married her beloved husband William (Bill) in 1959, and teaching led them together on a road from Manitoba, to Ontario, and Alberta. Their first son, Roman, was born in High Prairie, AB, in 1966; their second, Dale, in 1970, while the family resided in Peace River, AB. Pauline left teaching in 1979, and retired when she, Bill and Dale moved from Westlock, AB, to Calgary in 1988. Pauline enjoyed reading, curling and golf, and was a member of the residents' bowling league in her much-loved community of Sierras of Tuscany, in Calgary, where she and Bill had many friends. After Bill's passing in 2006, Pauline remained active in the Hawkwood Baptist Church, where for a time she reprised her role as educator, volunteering to teach in the church's ESL program. She and Bill had previously been members of the Slave Lake Alliance Church, and the Westlock United Church. All who knew Pauline will attest that her great joy in life was conversation, and sharing her love of language. Her vivacity and eloquence will be remembered by the many whose lives she touched. Pauline is survived by her two sons, Roman (Thea) and Dale (Julia); a sister, Mary Kubas, a brother, Steve (Sadie) Labchuk; four sisters-in-law, Denise Labchuk, Helen Labchuk, Anne Kartushyn and Helen Kartushyn; numerous nieces and nephews, and her loyal friend Fred (Buzz) Scott.
