JOYCE DHEERE It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected death of our cherished mum and grandmother, Joyce on April 6, 2018 after a brief illness at St. Boniface Hospital. She will be sadly missed by her children: Pat Zaborniak (Jim), Leslie Jones, Mike Dheere (Jane), David Dheere, Caite Dheere (Matthew) and Janet Dheere (Jaime). Her memory will be treasured by her five grandchildren: Matthew, Lauren and Zak and Alan and Elise. Her extended family of sisters-in-law Jacquie and Georgette, brother-in-law Danny, and nieces, nephews and many friends will greatly miss her. Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband Gus, after 53 years of marriage. Her parents, Maude and Ronald, her four siblings: Ken, Doug, Maureen and Mona, and son-in-law Brian also predeceased her. From humble beginnings on a farm in Sanford, Manitoba, Joyce moved to the big city of Winnipeg to launch her nursing career. There she made life long friendships with the members of the Winnipeg General Nursing class of 1951. Her career was varied and she took time off to raise her six children. In 1993, Joyce retired from the Victoria Order of Nurses as the Home Care Coordinator at the Misericordia Hospital. Beyond her nursing career, Joyce was a dedicated caregiver to extended family and friends over the years. She was a devout Catholic. A vibrant, energetic person, Joyce strove to maintain her independence despite the health challenges she was facing in her 90th year. Joyce loved her Blue Jays games and enjoyed watching curling. Her bridge get-togethers were particularly special to her, but more than anything, she valued her family and the time spent together. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. P. G. Mehta, her family physician for over 30 years. We also express our gratitude to the 5E medicine team at St. Boniface for their compassionate care. A celebration of Joyce's life will take place on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made to a charity dear to Joyce's heart: Clubhouse Inc. of Winnipeg, 172 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B6. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

  • Hello Pat, Leslie, Michael, David, Caite, and Janet, I was so sad to hear about your wonderful mom. You wrote such a touching tribute to her life. She truly was an amazing woman who set the gold standard for many of us. Laurel and Marni and I were so happy to spend a short weekend with her last year reminiscing about life on the farm in Sanford and of course playing the slots only a little bit! I remember Auntie Joyce as a person who cared so deeply about her sisters. Watching your mom support Auntie Mona over the years and hearing about her connections to Auntie Maureen always left me in awe. Auntie Joyce was a woman of strength, compassion, intelligence and deep caring. Even though I live miles away, I will remember. Peace to all of you. • To a special Auntie Joyce who offered me so much love and support over my childhood allowing me to be a best friend cousin with your daughter Patricia. The memories of "The Trade" will remain forever in my heart. When I entered into the profession of nursing you were my mentor. If not for your weekly telephone calls and your listening ear I never would have made it through to be a nurse for many years, just as you were. You are the last of my fathers family. Go peacefully from this life Auntie Joyce and now you will be with your beloved husband Uncle Gus. From Laurel - Posted by: Laurel gerelus (Neice) on: Apr 08, 2018
