Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMICHAEL JOSEPH CORDY July 6, 1935 - April 10, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the April 10 passing of our husband, father and Pa. Left to mourn Mike's passing are his loving wife, Shirley (nee Knight), of 63 years of marriage; son Glenn (Cathy); daughter Donna (Doug); grandchildren Jason (Brooke), Missy, Tyler (Andrea) and Garret (Ashley); great-granddaughter Lainey, and grandpets Jeter, Paytin and Fisher, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Tom and Ellen (Nugent); five brothers (most recently his brother Roy), and two sisters. Mike grew up in Cape Breton, NS. During his six-year tenure in the military, he met Shirley in Victoria, BC and they were married in 1954. In 1961, they moved to Winnipeg, where Mike embarked on his 30-year career as a retailer with Imperial Oil. There he made friends with long-time customers and employees. Mike volunteered his time within the Fort Garry hockey and baseball organizations. In 1975, Mike and Shirley purchased a cottage at Lee River, where they enjoyed year-round activities of boating, snowmobiling, golf and softball with all their new friends at the lake. Weekends and summers were spent with grandchildren, family and friends all enjoying lake time and surviving his wicked tube rides, for it was never over until someone got hurt. In 1995, Mike and Shirley retired to the cottage and spent their winters in Gold Canyon, Arizona. They continued going south over the next 18 years; enjoying their time playing golf, softball and the special friendships formed. Happy hours and pot luck gatherings were a regular event in the park and attendance was mandatory. In 2005 they moved back into the city where again softball was a favourite pastime with the Ichabods team. Mike spent his final years at the Waverley following his Jets, Bombers and Blue Jays. Yes, a loyal fan he was, however Mike's priority was always to spend time with his family and friends. He cherished his long-time friendships with Neil, Clark, Eddy, John, Guy and too many softball teammates to mention. As per Mike's wishes, a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, just hug your loved ones. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com

We first met Mike after our niece Cathy started dating Glenn. Mike’s love of family, friends and life were evident. We always enjoyed the family gatherings and appreciated being included with the Cordy family. Mike’s legacy lives on with his beautiful family and the wonderful memories that we all have. Our heartfelt condolences to Shirley and all the family. Rest in peace Mike! - Posted by: Ken and Linda Boughton (Friends/Family) on: Apr 28, 2018

I first met Mike in 1961 when I was 10 years old. He was managing Amherst Esso for Ollie Stromme and I was the delivery boy for Canada Drugs right next door. He and Ollie and others would come in for lunch at the lunch counter where we got to know each other. When I turned 16, Ollie hired me at Silver Heights Esso at Mount Royal and Portage as a gas jockey. About a year later, I moved to Amherst Esso where I stayed from 1967 - 1970 working for Mike while going to St. James Collegiate and for a few years thereafter. I gained some significant mechanical prowess during my tenure. I believe Mike may have been at my social prior to my wedding in 1973. I kept in touch with Mike and Joe Hrynchuk after moving to Edmonton in 1973, and eventually Calgary in 1977, and up until about 1987 when they were both working at Mount Royal Esso at Mount Royal and Ness. As a result of Mike's influence, I wound up working for Imperial Oil Corporate for 21 years in Calgary and Edmonton before moving to the Middle East for nearly a decade. That's when we lost touch. Mike was always a good guy and the young guys really liked working for him and very much liked him as a friend. I have many fond memories of Mike including enjoying my first beer with him and Joe in the back of the service station. Hard to believe its been over 30 years since I last saw Mike. Even harder to believe its been nearly 60 years since we first met. I am writing this from an old time service station where I currently work in my retirement for something to do. Thanks to guys like Mike, I decided to go retro and relive the experiences of my youth. R.I.P. my friend. It was a blast. - Posted by: Gary Frost (Former Employee) on: Apr 26, 2018
