Rick Lang...where do I start? Rick and I were friends from the time we were allowed to venture out of our own yards alone. Like most young boys, one day we were buddies the next day we would be fighting over something stupid. Then just as quickly we would patch things up. Growing up on Mission Street in the 60's was classic. You could ride on hay rack pulled by horses drink from a garden hose or from John Yurchucks well/pump if you really wanted a cold drink. There were swamps to raft on, hay stacks to fight on, gardens to raid, and all the guys had air rifles. Life was an adventure and every day we found something new to get into. To say that our adventures often got us into trouble would be a huge understatement, but we all survived. As we got older Rick met Margaret and we drifted apart like so many childhood friends do. I'd hear of Rick's adventures and think "only Rick". Fourteen grandchildren is a real testament to Rick's approach to the grand adventure of life. The Mission Street bunch are and were a tight group, and 55 plus years later many of us are still in touch. It's an amazing bond because even though there can often be years without seeing your old buddies it always seems like you saw each other just yesterday. It's taken me a while to put into words how I feel, there's an empty spot in my heart. Rick, I know that you're on another adventure and I'm sure we'll meet up again. Good Luck my friend.
