WILLIAM (BILL) G. LINDSAY, MD Went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, at age 83, on Monday, April 23, 2018, with his family at his side. Preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Bernice (nee Toole) Lindsay of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bill or "Billy" as he was known then, loved all sports, especially hockey and golf, and went on to play both hockey and basketball with tremendous success at the University of Manitoba where he was inducted into the Halls of Fame for both sports. He completed medical school at the University of Manitoba then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to complete his residency and fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota. He had a long and distinguished career in cardiac surgery in Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Winnipeg. His love for his family and the people around him will always be remembered. Strong of spirit but kind and gentle; brilliant but humble; a man of integrity, good will, and simple faith. He lived a life of countless acts of generosity and service to others and lived each and every day to the fullest. Special thanks to Michael Quinn, devoted friend, caregiver, and brother in Christ, for his tireless service. The family also gives thanks for the many talented medical staff and caregivers that cared for Bill during his illness. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Bill was a dynamic medical classmate (Class of '64), one of the best players on our Med school hockey team and an all round nice guy while becoming a superb cardiac surgeon. He always attributed most of his success to the support of his wonderful wife Jo-Ann! Sincere condolances to Jo-Ann and family. Per ardua ad astra. • Dr. Bill Lindsay was a very close friend of my long deceased husband, D'Arcy McCaffrey, Q.C. My condolences to you Joanne. You were so gracious to D'Arcy and me and his two youngest daughters in April 1983 when we arrived in Sanibel Island, Florida. D'Arcy and I were married in late March, 1983 in Toronto during a break in his trial schedule. He and Bill, as I was told, had done first year law in Winnipeg as classmates, but Bill realized that calling was not for him. On the occasion of this visit we staying at the Sanibel Ramada Inn, we were on our "honeymoon" and this trip across Alligator Alley was just to visit Bill and you and your family. I recall walking on the lovely beaches of Sanibel with you Joanne. I had worked for your brother Bill Percy during my articles at Thompson, Dorfman, Sweatman. D'Arcy's funeral was more than 20 years ago, but Bill was so kind and concerned about D'Arcy and his far too early demise. Joanne, you have lost the love of your life and a man who gave so much to the medical profession. Much love, Shelley G. Mitchell - Posted by: Shelley Mitchell (family friend ) on: May 05, 2018
