BRUCE ALLEN SHALE Bruce Allen Shale, 69, passed away peacefully, in the loving presence of his wife, son and daughter-in-law, at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, MB, on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, after a valiant battle with cancer. Bruce was born to Henry Shale and Frances Shale (Grammer), in Grande Prairie, AB, but grew up mainly in Lockport, MB. Since childhood he had the heart of an engineer, and was forever building and creating. Those passions led him to become a mechanic in the Air Force in 1970, where he met his wife France Shale (Girard), and they travelled the world collecting more stories than he had time to tell. After leaving the military he and France settled in Edmonton, AB building custom homes, including their own, and welcomed their daughter Robyn Chubey (Shale). Bruce's talents as a builder later brought him back to Winnipeg with his young family, where he started All Shale Western doing custom renovations. There he built another home for his family, which now included their son, Kevin. Kevin would grow to become his business partner, and continue the legacy with his own enterprise, for which Bruce was so proud. Bruce was a true scholar, and an entrepreneur. He was an artist with wood and metal. He loved architecture, nature and gardening. He, France, Robyn and Kevin also ran a bedding plant-stand for years, that fuelled a lasting gardening passion in the family. Bruce was known by many as the Hot Pepper King, many would agree his peppers were the best! Favourite hobbies were golfing with Kevin or Dan Chubey, watching his BC Lions, travelling, and hunting for geese or mushrooms. He visited farmer's markets for ingredients, everywhere we went, for amazing meals. For all his interests, his family was number one and he was always there to help, give advice, or just listen and share in accomplishments. Besides being an amazing husband, father, and beloved father-in-law to Lucie Perroudon and Dan Chubey, he was a proud and loving grandfather to Lila and Cade Chubey, who will forever love their Papa. Everyone who knew Bruce will remember his incredible sense of humour, constant jokes, generosity and tenacious character. He will be missed by many. A private function to be held at a later date. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Canadian Red Cross.

Condolences & Memories (8 entries)

  • John and I often think of Bruce. He did so many wonderful things for us. New kitchen, bathroom, doors, stove installations. He was our go to guy for all kinds of problems involving home, garden and cooking! All those wonderful chickens! He was a very generous man always offering all kinds of advice and lovely things from his garden. Our deepest condolences to you and your kids France. - Posted by: Loretta Kampeas and John Gartner (client) on: Oct 17, 2018

  • Bruce did so much to and for my house. I still marvel that he planned such wonderful changes and then built them. He was a very interesting and innovative man. Every where in my house I have memories of him: in the kitchen to add drywall to the ceiling he said all I need is Patrick (my very tall son) ! He also gave child rearing advice, gardening advice and lots of laughs. My sympathy to you all, sorry it took me so long to find out. - Posted by: Susannah Ames (Customer of Bruce (lots of renovations)) on: Oct 17, 2018

  • France, Kevin, Robyn and families. . . We know there are no words soft enough to dull the sadness you are all feeling at this time. Take comfort in knowing how proud Bruce was of you all. There was never a visit where he didn't share a story of each and every one of you and announce an accomplishment. We always found it special how Bruce had the ability to finish Kevin's sentences and vice versa. He spoke often of his love of having the grandchildren over, spending the day for a ride-along with Kevin, and simply sharing the kitchen or garden with France. He always shared a recipe, advice for the flowers or garden, and a funny story of something that happened that day. We know there is a huge hole in your hearts right now. There are plenty of great memories to try to try to fill some of that space with. Our thoughts are with you all.
