So sorry to hear he passed, I knew and highly respected Jimmy as he is an awesome musician. I had the opportunity to play music with Jim and Reg Bouvett. I was trying to learn how to play steel guitar and with Jim and Reg, Jim had me play on the roof top in Regina at the Canadian Country music awards to try settle my nerves and it helped. I have never forgotten Jim or Reg for the support they have as amateur it will be a honor I will never forget. Thank you Al Turcotte - Posted by: Al Turcotte (Friend) on: May 19, 2018

My friend, " J. W" May you rest in peace. My deepest condolences to Val, Rodney, Duane, Celina, and Trina. Ever since we first met, I have had such a profound respect for you, your musical ability, and also your great sense humor, Your one liners were precious. I remember the "gigs" with Gene B. and Jack L and the after "gig" Sals coffees, and stories. What a lot of memories. More recently, I will cherish" tea" and" cookie" times!! When you would visit and we would "catch up" on all the news of our fellow musicians. I will forever ( as long as I have left) treasure the CD ( finally!). I consider myself very blessed to have known you and the CD is more proof of your phenomenal musical ability. I am sorry never had the opportunity to see any of your artwork or paintings. I remember " gigs", where at break times, you would have your sketch pad and pencils and create these "awesome' portraits. What a true talent we have lost. I will miss you forever "J.W". I will find you when I get there, and it would be an absolute honor to play another " gig " with you. One of my favorite songs is " Together Again" and now you are together again with Merle, and " the greats". Thank you, for you.. - Posted by: Carole Kostiuk (Swayze) (fellow musician/friend) on: May 10, 2018

I am reminded now of this very talented yet humble man who was invited to our home, by my two 1st cousins Jim & Dean. They had asked Jimmy if he would play a few tunes for my elderly Mother who was turning 90 years old. Jimmy came in, sat down and in his quiet way started played wonderful music, accompanied by my cousin(s). He didn't need to say anything because his music did the talking and we enjoyed the time he gave us....it is something I will always remember and the kindness toward his friends. My deepest condolences to Jimmy's family and friends. - Posted by: Grace (acquaintance) on: May 10, 2018

Even though Jimmy was in Manitoba and I live in British Columbia, we were able to have chats on the phone and I did see him when I was visiting in Winnipeg a couple of times in these few years. Jimmy was the most accomplished musician that I have even known. I played his music often and made sure my friends listened to him too. I was always bragging about him. When we had our chats on the phone, we talked about old times, and what Winnipeg musicians were doing now. Jimmy kept me informed on the comings and goings of himself and the other musicians and God was always part of our conversations too. I am going to miss my dear friend but he will always be in my thoughts and prayers. Len McKenzie - Posted by: Len McKenzie (A friend for a least the last 50 years) on: May 10, 2018

I will never ever forget the impression that you left in my heart back when we were mere kids. A wedding dance at the old Hayland Hall turned out to be a Chet Atkins Show rather than a wedding celebration. Everyone literally paused for the evening as they were mesmerized by the young Jimmy Flett from our neighboring Ebb & Flow. The also young Clifford Maytwayashing was to play fiddle music for the evening. Cliff brought Jimmy and David Desjarlais to accompany him. The crowd demanded more and more from this young man that was truly blessed with incredible talent. That was fifty-three years ago. That memory will stay with me forever. Later years at the Brunswick, Savoy and all the others were great times. I cherished and worshipped this prodigy all of my life. I have been blessed to have Jim Flett as a wonderful friend. "go rest high on that mountain my friend" Sincerest Condolences to Val and your family. Heaven has gained a Master. Rest In Peace Bro. - Posted by: Linden Johnson (life-long friend) on: May 10, 2018
