IRVING JONAS DAHL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irving Jonas Dahl at St. Boniface Hospital on May 6, 2018. Irving was dearly loved and will be fondly remembered by his beloved family including his wife Joan; daughter Laurie, (Grant); sons, Curtis (Marlene), Brad (Carrie), Warren (Leesa), and Cameron (Terry); grandchildren, Mark (Pat), Lisa (Callan), Steven (Roxanne), Eric (Crystal), Christina, Amanda (Nic), Chad, Matt, Rebecca, Issy, Emily, Dylan; nine great-grandchildren; brother Barry Bergen (Joyce) and aunt Amy MacDonald. He was predeceased by his father Jonas Doll; mother Sigrulin Bergen; sisters, Donna, Elaine and Ethel. Irving was born July 27, 1932 in Riverton, Manitoba, grew up on his grandparent's farm and left at the young age of 17 to pursue his journeyman ticket as an electrician. He and Joan Collins married in 1955 and settled in Winnipeg where Irving gained employment at Labatt's Brewery as a maintenance electrician. They raised their five children in East Kildonan and at the age of 59 Irv and Joan retired to their 'lakeview' cottage in Hnausa. They spent many winters in Arizona and British Columbia but Hnausa was always dad's haven, his tiny piece of paradise where he was happiest. Many glorious summers were spent on those grassy five acres with visiting children, grandchildren and friends, who will forever have fond memories of Amma and Afi's cottage, the family gathering place that was always full of laughter and good times. Irving was a strong, resilient man of character. He was also a longstanding Freemason and proud member of Khartum Temple Shrine. He became a founding member and president of the Ruff Riders unit. Irving loved the Jets and Blue Bombers, played hockey, baseball and curled in his younger years. In his spare time he loved to read, particularly spy novels and war stories. He also loved listening to music and enjoyed singing along to his favourite songs. Despite many ailments in the last several years of his life, Irving's inner strength and a will to carry on kept him fighting to the end. Life will never be the same without you, you will be forever loved and missed by us all! A celebration of Irving's life will be held Saturday, May 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Johnson Hall, 5th floor, Waterfront Centre, 94 First Ave., in Gimli, Manitoba.
