JOYCE BROWN (nee MILLIKEN) It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Joyce Brown on May 9, 2018 with family by her side. Mom was born May 3, 1940, the eldest of two daughters, to William and Agnes Milliken in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Tears will not hide the grief of her daughter Margaret (Doug); her son David (Becky); grandchildren, Melissa, Sarah, and Ainsley; and her one true love and soul mate, Dad. Sharing in the sorrow is her sister Ann (Bob) Hunt in Birmingham, England, along with numerous family and friends both here in Winnipeg and Belfast. Arriving in Winnipeg in 1968 with her daughter, Mom was reunited with dad and soon made Canada their home. After the arrival of son David, Mom became a full time homemaker, but still found time to serve on multiple committees, organized teas and performed a variety of tasks for her Chapter of the Eastern Star. Her passion for singing and dancing was always evident, as she could be found dancing the night away at the Winnipeg Irish Association socials with everyone, except dad. Mom had a remarkable trait for directions, no matter where she went in the world she only had to be shown once and never forgot. The same applied for birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, whatever there was a greeting card for - she always remembered. Mom loved everyone and yet none too much that she might be accused of favourites yet we all knew the grandchildren were high on the list. Mom always spoke with great pride of family, concern and respect for friends, but the glow from her heart provided a warmth unequalled when given the opportunity to speak of dad, her one and only love that spanned over 60 years. In her latter years Mesa, AZ became her second home where old and new friends proved most comforting, and nothing pleased her more in preparing when she knew family may be coming to visit. Selfish to a fault because she gave her all to everything she involved herself in and certainly undeserving of what fate delivered in her final days. The family would like to express their most profound gratitude to all nurses and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital, Home and Palliative Care, Riverview, church and friends. All of whom created warmth and love in Mom's final days. A service to honour mom's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to CancerCare Manitoba.

My deepest condolences to you Dave, to your children and all the family. I will always remember Joyce's smile and contagious laughter as she spread happiness to everyone that she met. Joyce was very proud of her culture, she made us "want to be Irish". She will be truly missed. Sincerely, Maria and Cristina - Posted by: Maria Graziano (Friend) on: May 17, 2018
