HELEN PROKOP (nee MACKI) January 29, 1940 - May 11, 2018 It is with great sadness and heartbreak I announce the passing of Helen Prokop on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her son Darren (Stephanie), daughter Karen, sisters, Mary and Jean Richter (Wendell), sister-in-law Elda, brother-in-law Richard, nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband Danny, of 52 years, parents, Caroline and Basil, brothers, Fred and Jerry, sister-in-law Carol, and parents-in-law, Anne and Robert. Helen was born in Winnipeg on January 29, 1940, where she lived all her life. Helen met the love of her life, Danny, at Grand Beach and soon after they married in 1964. Helen was a devoted wife and mother always putting her family above all else. She and Danny worked hard their whole lives and they provided a warm, loving, supportive home. She was a full-time mom, and in her spare time she volunteered at Elwick School where her children attended. She treasured her family and nothing gave her greater joy than being close to them. Helen worked at K-mart, Eatons and Aramark for many years as a server where she contributed to outstanding customer service which led to many long-time customers. Helen always had to keep busy whether it was cleaning the house or doing yard work. She enjoyed music, dancing, playing cards, doing word search and playing Scrabble. She especially loved to go shopping and taking long walks in Assiniboine Park with her son Darren, daughter Karen and sister Jean. A special thank you to my Aunty Jean for not only being so present in Mom's life but for all the incredible support she provided. To Dave Hall for all his weekly visits and making sure I was ok. To my friends Anne, Rachel and Wanda for their kind words, generous gifts and and most of all their friendship. To the wonderful staff at Maples Personal Care Home for making Helen feel welcome and comfortable during her stay. To the wonderful nurses Richard and Rose at Seven Oaks Hospital for going above and beyond in caring for Helen. With respect to Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. We were blessed to have you in our lives and now we cherish you in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or to the Alzheimer Society.
