JOHN DAVID BONNELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John David Bonnell, on February 27, 2018. John was born in Sioux Lookout in 1931 to Jack Bonnell and Svava Pallson and soon moved to Transcona, Manitoba where he spent many happy years. He is remembered there as 'Johnny', a charming, young man-about-town and a natty dresser. After marrying Sara Helen Rauhaus in 1958, they moved to Ontario, and he began his life-long career as a salesperson and businessman. John loved people and was always focused on ensuring that he met the needs of those he worked with. A creative man and a great dreamer, he worked hard to make his visions of his businesses come true. Those businesses included an importing firm, a hobby farm, a bed and breakfast and various retail enterprises. John was the eternal optimist, and met adversity with resilience. His family called him the "Energizer Bunny", as he overcame many obstacles including a major heart attack 20 years ago and just kept on going. John loved crossword puzzles, painting and sketching, as well as doing many handy projects around the house. He taught himself to play the guitar and spent many happy hours singing country and western songs to his children, his grandchildren and himself. His expertise in cooking was famous, especially his Caesar salad and Beef Bourguignon. John is survived by his sisters, Lois Celentino and Pat Boss, his beloved wife, Sara Helen Bonnell, his three children, Lissa Bonnell Davies (Daryl Bonnell Davies), Lee Bonnell (Sherri Bonnell), Ryan Bonnell (Nancie Bonnell), and six grandchildren, Rhiannon Bonnell Davies, Kristjaan Bonnell Davies, Teagan Bonnell, Ellis Bonnell, Riley Bonnell and Michael Bonnell. You will be forever in our hearts and our thoughts.

  • Sorry to hear about John's passing. My condolences to Sara and the Bonnell Family. Terry and Karen Dash, Calgary, AB - Posted by: Terry Dash (2nd cousin to Sara) on: Jan 05, 2019

  • John was a great father who gave his family an appreciation of “going for it”. From Big City to small towns and a lot of country in between, we got to experience more than most families. He built a house in Missaussaga, bought a hobby farm in Acton, Ontario, ran a bed and breakfast in Bobcaygeon, Ontario, opened a Patio furniture store, and started Best Windows and Doors in Winnipeg. He had a full life and I am proud that he was my dad. - Posted by: Ryan Bonnell (Son) on: Jun 20, 2018
