WILLIAM STEWART GULBIS 1932 - 2018 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bill, husband, father and grandfather, peacefully in his sleep, on April 29, 2018 in Vernon, BC. Bill is survived by his wife Sonia, his children, Donna Charney (Ron), Stewart Gulbis and Debra King, and his granddaughters, Shannon and Jamie. Dad grew up in Dauphin, Manitoba and moved to Winnipeg as a young man; there he met and married Sonia, and settled in St. Andrews where he and Mom raised their family. As a successful employee of the Grain Commission for many years, he accepted a transfer to Prince Rupert, BC later in life, and retired at the age of 60. He made Vernon, BC his home, where he would live out his golden years as an active senior. Many fond memories of time with the Stolar family: playing crib and canasta, camping at Grand Beach, and yearly Grey Cup games in their home where Dad was the 'chef' - cooking up his infamous Chinese food. Whether cheering for Jackie Parker (Edmonton Eskimos), or for his favourite baseball team - the Chicago White Sox - he was an avid sports fan. Dad lived life to the fullest - fishing at Seven Sisters and Lockport, being an assistant coach for the St. Andrews Midget Girls Baseball team, Scrabble games and Checkers matches, and outings at the Assiniboia Downs where he loved the horse racing and was known to occasionally bet on a winning Trifecta! Dad came to know his neighbours in Vernon, as not only friends but extended family. They looked out for him over the years, and we thank Marlene, Rocky and others for their kindness, filling his life with laughter, and including him in their lives. As per Dad's wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held - his ashes have been sprinkled in a peaceful, beautiful park he loved and a running creek high up in the Rocky Mountains. We welcome friends and family to celebrate his life by sharing your stories and remembering a life well lived. ************************************ ************************************ YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE Author Unknown You never said I'm leaving You never said goodbye. You were gone before I knew it, And only God knew why. A million times I needed you, A million times I cried. If love alone could have saved you, You never would have died. In life I loved you dearly, In death I love you still. In my heart you hold a place, That no one could ever fill. It broke my heart to lose you, But you didn't go alone For part of me went with you, The day God took you home. ************************************ ************************************ We were soon to be together, Just a few more precious days. God sent His angels for you, But you left your love behind, "Waiting just for me". I miss you Dad with all my heart, You know how much I love you and Would need your strength today. I will always be your "little girl". Your loving daughter, Donna Faye

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Bill and I worked together for many years in Winnipeg. Finally I moved to Vancouver and Bill moved to Prince Rupert. Many times during lunch we played pool. Bill was a very good pool player. I wish to express my condolences to Bill's family. May he rest in peace. - Posted by: Len Kassian (We worked together for many years in Winnipeg. ) on: Jun 11, 2018

  • Sincere condolences on Bill's passing. Over my 18 years at The Kal as a 'horse racing teller' Bill was a regular customer. When the outlet downtown Vernon closed in 2013 and the betting moved to the casino as a self serve, I missed our chats. He was kind enough to call when my Mom passed several years ago and that was the last time we spoke. He was a man of few words, but they were always worth hearing. I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Barbara-Ann Burgess (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2018
