ELIZABETH LEIGH SCHACHTER
Date of Passing: May 19, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH LEIGH SCHACHTER With great sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Elizabeth Leigh Schachter. Born in 1992, Elizabeth attended Brock-Corydon School Hebrew bilingual program; Ecole River Heights - French Immersion program graduating with honours, and winning the W. S. Lindt Award in both grade 7 and 8; Ecole Secondaire Kelvin High School - Baccalaureate Program, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2010; and the University of Winnipeg, earning both Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education degrees in 2015. Elizabeth was working for Seven Oaks School Division, most recently at Maples Collegiate. She was an active member of the Sarah Sommer Chai Folk Ensemble as a singer where she shared her beautiful voice. Beth was active at the River Heights Community Centre, playing soccer, ringette and ultimate and also coaching ringette. Beth consistently gave back to the community to enrich the lives of those she touched, through numerous charitable endeavours. Beth was always actively learning and most recently found friendship at the Sanctuary House of Prayer, where she continued to make the world a better place, one good deed at a time. Because of her illness, she was unable to see in herself the greatness that others saw in her. She had difficulty, letting people in, we wish she could have experienced the same joy that she brought to others. To put a name to it, she had a Borderline Personality Disorder coupled with depression and anxiety disorders. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Sunny and Joe Schachter, Gwen and Leigh Barrett, Aunt Christine Novits, and Uncle Larry Smith. She is survived by her parents, Marie Barrett and Harley Schachter (Roxanna Tarin Picsheh); brothers, Jeff Schachter (Elan Marchinko) and Daniel Schachter (Melissa Poiron); and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Donations may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (204-477-7520), to the Beth Schachter Bat Mitzvah Fund, where a scholarship will be established in her name, or you may choose a charity of your choice. Elizabeth's family would like to thank our family and friends for their kindness and support during this difficult time. We also wish to express our appreciation to the Winnipeg Police Services.

We were so saddened by the news of Elizabeth’s passing. Elizabeth nanny’d For us the summer before she started her first teaching position. Our children were elated to have Elizabeth care for them. She frequently brought her guitar, and they would sing songs, she loved to read with them and share stories of her hedgehog (our children especially enjoyed the story about the time he poo’d in the tub). After the summer, Elizabeth babysat our children as her busy schedule permitted. My husband and I so enjoyed hearing about how Elizabeth was doing with her teaching and life in general, she was such a kind, beautiful person. We wish her peace and her family and friends comfort during this unimaginable difficult time. We are honoured to have known Elizabeth. The Tremorin’s. - Posted by: Jennel (Friend ) on: Jun 04, 2018

My deepest sympathy to your family on the tragic loss of Beth. Both of my sons attended Brock Corydon at the same time as her. Beth was a year older than my youngest & they also attended Ecole River Heights in overlapping times. Beth sounds like a wonderful young woman & she will no doubt be missed by all who knew her, including her Chai family. - Posted by: Renee Billauer (Acquaintance ) on: Jun 03, 2018

My condolences to Elizabeth's family. We hired Elizabeth to be a nanny for our 3 young children, and Elizabeth was the best child care worker we have had. We thought of Elizabeth as 'Mary Poppins' as she was so kind and caring for our kids, and was so polite, mature and intelligent. I'll always remember how beautifully she would sing to the kids. We will ensure to remind our children about Elizabeth as they grow up. Elizabeth was a true gift for this world. - Posted by: Denis Tremorin (Employer/friend) on: Jun 02, 2018

My heart goes out to Elizabeth’s family during this sorrowful time. I had the pleasure of working with Elizabeth, and although I didn’t know her well, can speak to the enormous amount of dedication and caring she showed her students. She would go above and beyond without being asked. She was not only a gifted young teacher, but just a kind and thoughtful person in general. I’m so sorry that her struggles with mental illness we’re so great. May she be at peace, and may your memories of her carry you through. - Posted by: Mary Oscarson (Elizabeth’s co-worker ) on: Jun 02, 2018

I met Beth when we were 13 and were both starting grade 7. Though we hadn't been in touch recently (my move to Europe mostly to blame), I was shocked and saddened to hear of Beth's passing. Beth was a wonderful friend, and I will always remember and cherish her friendship and influence as we grew up together. I wish I could have attended the funeral.
