HELEN STRANDEN September 9, 1918 - May 9, 2018 Sadly, we announce the passing of Helen Stranden. She slipped away in her sleep, May 9, 2018, just four months shy of her 100th birthday. Helen was a very hard-working, organized, strong, fun-loving woman, even through all of her adversities (losing Andreas, her husband in 1969; Larry, her son, in 1987; Beverly, her daughter, in 1993; Joan McBride 1997; Sherrie Christie, her last child, in 2000) all to cancer. She also lost one of her four grandchildren, Dean, in 2011. She continued in her life and stayed positive, keeping herself busy painting pictures, planting flowers, making wine, doing word search books, knitting, making and altering clothing for her friends and neighbours. In earlier years, she ran the post office at Shoppers Drug Mart, until she retired. She relocated from her apartment in 2014, to Heritage Lodge on Portage Avenue, where she was very well taken care of. Thanks to the entire staff for taking such good care of her. A small graveside service has taken place. Thank you Phyllis for the heartfelt graveside service. R.I.P. Helen, loved by so many.
