AGNES M. A. CORMIER (née ARBEZ) December 6, 1933 - May 22, 2018 St. Claude, Manitoba It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother. Agnès was predeceased by her husband Alain, their son Louis, her infant sister Renée, and her parents, Marie and Louis. Agnès is survived by her sister Lucile Châtel, children, Michèle (Mike), Paul (Jeannette), Denis (MaJane), Renée (Paul), and Paul's three boys (Colin, Zac and Stefan), Denis' three boys (Theo, Nicholas and Gabriel) and Renée's two children (Danielle/Rose and Dominic), as well as her numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Agnès was born in St. Claude, Manitoba and only moved away briefly to St. Boniface to obtain her teaching certificate in 1952. She taught grade school for seven years until starting a family of her own in 1959 and would eventually resume her career in education as a substitute teacher when her family had grown up. Agnès enjoyed many winter sports including curling and cross-country skiing, and she was voted St. Claude's first 'Queen of the Carnival' in 1955. Agnès cherished being outdoors and spent countless hours tending to her many beautiful gardens and was an avid weather watcher who reported the level of precipitation to Environment Canada on a daily basis. Throughout her life, Agnès enriched the lives of many in her community as a valued member of many organizations and committees. She was a Bingo volunteer at the St. Claude Pavillion for 20 years and a member of the council at the Club Age d'Or, in charge of all correspondence. Agnès also lent a hand in labelling subscriptions for the mailing of the St. Claude Gazette for nearly 10 years and was a regular contributor herself. The Gathering of Nations appreciated her dedicated involvement at celebrations which took place throughout the region. For 30 years, she was a member of the St. Claude Historical Society and served as secretary since 1995. The Tourism and Marketing Committee appreciates the assistance she provided to visitors at the Information Centre, situated at the town's historic prison, since 2013. Agnès served at the St. Claude Archives cataloguing and filing records of accession and was a significant contributor to the development and maintenance of the St. Claude Museum, tirelessly collecting artifacts, managing notations of displays, and guiding visitors from around the world. Mom, you will be remembered for your tireless love and sacrifice. For those wishing to celebrate Agnès' life, we suggest planting a tree or flower with your family in memory of her love for her family, community, and bountiful gardens. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Friday, June 1, at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Alain Guenou officiating.
