Date of Passing: May 18, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET LILIAN COCKRIELL (nee MONDOR) June 9, 1958 - May 18, 2018 After a brave and courageous battle, it is with great sadness and heartache that we announce the passing of Margaret Cockriell (nee Mondor), of Winnipeg, MB, formerly of Kenora, ON, at St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 59 years. She was predeceased by her parents, Ruth Hrynchuk and Lester Mondor; her sisters, Donna Tuzyk and Leslie Hopkins; and her stepmother Grace Mondor. Margaret is survived by her husband, Oliver Cockriell; her children, Jonathan Slipec (Christina) and Donna Oige (Kyle); her grandchild Lucas and second unborn grandchild whom she never had a chance to meet; her siblings, Linda DePalma (Orlando), Leonard Pearson, Richard Mondor, Suzanne Payne (George), Robin Mondor (Angela), Frank Hrynchuk (Lisa) and Steven Mondor; numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished, and many close friends whom were like family. Margaret was born in Kenora, ON and spent time through her early life in Edmonton and Calgary, AB before settling down in Winnipeg, MB. Her career was spent working in the financial services industry at RBC Dominion Securities where she spent 26 years, then Wellington West Capital, and lastly at Taylor Financial Solutions. Margaret had an infectiously joyous personality and always put the needs of others above her own, right up until her final days of life. Margaret always had a desire to create things and enjoyed her craft projects. On many occasions her creativity would be further inspired from viewing other online ideas which she would later add her own personal flair to. She was also a semi-professional seamstress and would often create things such as dresses for herself or Halloween costumes for her children. Margaret was an exceptional cook and even made her own homemade wine. Christmas cooking preparations began weeks in advance and became a social event as perogy and holopchi making were done so with a glass of wine in hand, surrounded by friends or family who would come to help. If you met her, chances were pretty good that you also got to play her favourite games with her, Rummoli or Yahtzee. She enjoyed various forms of music and dancing, in addition to having season tickets for the theatre. In 2008 Margaret married Oliver. She enjoyed spending time with him outdoors doing activities such as fishing, sitting together on the front porch or around a campfire, and going for drives to admire Christmas lights. Margaret has always enjoyed fishing and even has two master angler awards under her belt. She also had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Her true passion in life however was her grandson Lucas whom she adored and she treasured each moment spent with him. This same passion was also seen through her anticipation for her expected grandchild due this August. Margaret was very proud of her children and would frequently be heard telling others about their accomplishments, which she was very supportive of. A Celebration of Life in memory of Margaret will be held on Friday, June 8, at 1:00 p.m., at the West Kildonan Legion at 1748 Main Street in the Jim Doig Memorial Hall. For Margaret's celebration we will be playing some of her favourite music while we share stories of how her life touched us all. Since Margaret loved life so much, it is only fitting that we celebrate her through music and laughter.

Momma Margaret may have been my brother’s Mother-in-Law but I claimed her as my own because my own Mother-in-Law and I are way to different to ever connect. She made me feel accepted, loved, cared for, and never made me feel like any of my emotions were wrong or bad. Her concern over my health as well as my husband’s will never be forgotten. She was and is a treasure for everyone who was lucky enough to have her in their world. Rest now Momma Margaret you fought valiantly. You will be missed everyday. Love you! - Posted by: Celindy (Adopted Mother in Law) on: Jun 08, 2018

We are so very fortunate to have met Margaret through my sister Lorrie Dodd. Over the years Margaret brought tons of laughter and adventure to many of our parties. She was definitely one in a million and will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and to everyone who will be missing her. - Posted by: Tammy and Calvin Charles (Friends) on: May 31, 2018

I met Margaret at the bus stop. We took the bus together every day. One day my roommate gave me his theatre ticket and I went. Low and behold I met Margaret and Donna and another family member. Margaret told me her grandson was starting daycare and I promised to take good care of him and still do! My condolences to the family! - Posted by: Mary Swain (Friend ) on: May 30, 2018
