GERARDA (GERRI) MARIE-ANNE JONSON (nee THERRIEN) At the age of 81, after an over three month courageous battle with cancer, we very sadly lost our mom, amma and sister on May 28, 2018, at the Victoria Hospital. Gerri was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, and her parents, Rosa and Joseph Therrien. She is survived by her sons: Russell, Neil, Derek (Sarah) and Mark; her sister Carmel Dube (Albert); her brothers: Gerard (Jeanne), Maurice (Diane) and Leo Beaudoin (Jeanne); and her grandchildren: Elizabeth, Garrett, George, Tanya, Ian, Miles, Scott and Emma. She is also survived by her special friend Ron Willett, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerri was an outstanding mom who would do anything for her boys. Since she had no girls Gerri was very happy when her granddaughters were born. She was also very close to her sister and brothers. Gerri was born at the Misericordia Hospital on May 15, 1937. She grew up on the family farm in Lorette. She graduated from the Lorette Collegiate Institute in 1955. A year after graduating from Grade 12 Gerri entered the St. Boniface nurses' residence. She graduated from the three year RN program in 1959. Gerri made life long friends during her time in residence. After becoming an RN she worked in the St. Boniface Hospital OR. She was an excellent nurse who above all cared for her patients. She worked in different areas and hospitals during her lifetime but worked the majority of her career at the St. Boniface Hospital. When Gerri's husband Kenneth died in 1983 she was 45 years old and had four teenage boys to raise. Her strength of character and deep belief in God got her through this difficult period, as well as other ones in her life. Due to various health issues Gerri did not have an easy final decade of her life but remained a positive and a caring person throughout this period. Near the end of her life she remained a mom first and was still concerned about her boys. The family would like to thank both the Victoria and the St. Boniface Hospitals for the excellent care Gerri received in her final months. In lieu of flowers or if you wish to make a donation in Gerri's memory, please consider the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation - Cancer Research. As per Gerri's wishes she has been cremated and a Memorial Mass celebrating her life will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., with eulogy beginning at 10:45 a.m. in Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens Church, 289 Dussault Avenue, Winnipeg. Gerri touched everyone with her great kindness and will be sorely missed. Mom rest in peace, your work on earth is done. E.J. COUTU & CO. E.J. COUTU & CO. • I met Gerri at the Bonivital Swimming Pool many years ago. A group of us became close while doing our aquatic excercises. I always looked forward to seeing Gerri, knowing we could chat about many topics and share lots of laughter. Her’s was infectious! She had many challenging health issues but always remained determined, courageous and compassionate. I will miss her greatly going forward but also know she has been released from her suffering. My deepest condolences to Gerri’s family and a huge hug to Ron as well for he did make her very happy. - Posted by: Louise McKean (Friend) on: Jun 06, 2018

  • To Derek and your family, sending condolences your way, your Mom will be remembered as a wonderful upbeat cheerful person. We first met at St Boniface when she looked after Gary on the chemo unit years ago, then found out she also looked after Dave’s wife Shirley. Dave and I are now married.....Russ lived a few doors from Kathryn on Bermac Bay in Southdale. What a small world. Take care and know your Mom was very special and caring, and so sorry she had to endure suffering in her life at the end.
