MARY MARLOW (nee MOON) February 27, 1927 - April 12, 2018 Peacefully, our beloved mother and grandmother, Mary Marlow, passed away in Vancouver, BC. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Harry in 2004, her soulmate of 55 years. Mary was also predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Cora Moon, and her seven siblings: sisters, Olive, Beryl (Richard Joyce), Bette (Doug Metsgar), and Claire (Randy Fowler), and brothers, Ewart (Eva Moon), Doug (Brownie Moon) and Bert (Barb Moon). She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families throughout Canada. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Gail Marlow, son-in-law Ron Ushock and her granddaughter Lauren; son Doug, her granddaughter Sydney and grandson Derek. She is also lovingly remembered by daughter-in-law Susan Marlow, and close family friend Beth Tutiah. Mary was born in Hull, in the County of Kingston-Upon-Hull, England, and as a baby travelled by ship with her parents and six siblings to Canada to begin a new life on a farm in Petersfield, Manitoba. The family soon moved to St. James where Mary grew up and met her husband, Harry. They were married on June 4, 1949. Winnipeg was Mary and Harry's lifetime home where Harry, with the guidance of his father, built their house on Doreen Street. Together they created a life for their family that included a family cottage at Longbow Lake, in the Lake of the Woods area. Summertime at the lake drew family and friends together for lots of laughter, water activities, and of course evening card games. Mary made sure everyone enjoyed delicious food, and especially baked the favourite of all, wild blueberry pies, and cooked freshly caught pickerel. Mary and Harry enjoyed the lake so much that in retirement the cottage became their home for five months of the year. The winter months were in warmer climates around the globe with a special enjoyment of Australia for their last seven winters in a row. As well, they enjoyed many winters in each of Portugal and Spain, and the southern USA. Together, they made many friends who they met along life's journey. Mary was a proud employee of the T. Eaton Company where she worked in the accounting department. After having her family, Mary focussed her skills on her home and was an amazing cook and baker. She also taught sewing to adults and high school students. Mary was an exceptionally talented and meticulous seamstress, milliner, knitter, cake decorator, and took all forms of creativity as an exciting challenge. She sewed her own clothing, as well as many beautiful wedding gowns and wedding party dresses. Later in her life she knit beautiful sweaters for her granddaughters, and of course sewed outfits for them as well. Mary and Harry loved their three grandchildren and cherished the times they spent with them. The grandchildren had their time every summer at the lake to spend with Nana and Papa. The grandchildren have fond memories of building forts or creating something interesting in the workshop, baking, eating special treats, going on nature adventures, and swimming in the lake and tubing behind the boat. All returned home with wonderful treats and stories from their exciting excursions and experiences with their Nana and Papa. After Harry passed away in 2004, Mary moved to Vancouver to join her daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, however, without Harry, Mary's life was never as fulfilled or complete. They were truly a team and he was her soulmate and lifetime love. The depth of his absence in her life was felt in her heart. She is now at peace. Mary has been cremated and a celebration of her life will be held at later date at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home in Winnipeg. Those we love don't go away. They walk beside us everyday. You are forever loved Mom.

  • Wonderful tribute to your mother! I remember walks over to 'the house' for cookies, her amazing sewing creations, and the huge family dinners hosted in their basement, all before 1964 when we moved West to Vancouver. I know you both will miss your Mom, but I'm pleased she will be with Harry in spirit again. XOXO - Posted by: Cindy MacLean (Niece ) on: Jun 21, 2018
