EMILIE RITA OKU (DZIAD)
Date of Passing: Apr 06, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILIE RITA OKU (nee DZIAD) Formerly of Winnipeg, Emilie passed away unexpectedly in Toronto on Friday, April 6, 2018, due to complications from a four year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Her warmth, compassion and unfailing courage will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 53 years, Dennis, her three children, Derek, Diana (Sophie) and Desmond (Janice) and four delightful grandchildren, Nathanial, Grace, Adrienne and Elan. She was preceeded by her parents, Michael and Valerie Dzaid and siblings, Walter (Josephine), Sophie (Ernie) and Anne. Born and raised in rural Manitoba, Emilie completed her education in Winnipeg and was employed as secretary to a prominent Winnipeg lawyer before staying home to raise her family. A period she always contended was the best time of her life - growing up with her little band of urchins while volunteering at church and school. The family moved to Toronto in 1982 to further her husband's career while Emilie resumed working full time as well as acting as home maker, teacher, friend and confidant, nurturing those virtues she thought essential to children in their formative years. We'll miss you terribly Mom but your legacy lives on in each of us. Cremation has taken place, a private funeral mass has been held and a Celebration of Life will take place later this month. I am sorry to hear of Amy's passing. Amy's father Michael and my father Tanislaus Dziad are brothers. We didn't see each other often after Amy moved to Winnipeg and Toronto and I moved to Vancouver, but we did see each other occasionally when both of us were in Winnipeg for a family event. We did keep in touch at Christmas. She almost always sent pictures and sent a note about her family. She was very proud of her family; I know she will be missed. A story that sticks in my memory: Shortly after Boo & I were married in 1969, Amy invited us for dinner, which I thought was very posh. For dessert her mom, Valerie, made a cherry pie but didn't remove the pits! We all had a good laugh but ate the pie anyway (carefully)! - Posted by: Teresa Lees (cousin) on: Jun 12, 2018
