Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARKIAN KORETSKI It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Markian Koretski on May 31, 2018, at the age of 33. Markian will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alia Marcinkow, mother Anna Koretski, siblings, Olesia Koretski (Matthew Newland), Irena Koretski and Adrian Koretski, nieces and nephews, Luka, Anna Maria, Anastacia and Nathaniel, his family-in-law, Allen, Mary and Larysa Marcinkow, as well as numerous friends and family in Canada and Ukraine. Markian was predeceased by his father Rt. Rev. Mitrat Oleh Koretski. Markian was born November 1, 1984 in Busk, Ukraine. Here, he grew up and spent many summers running and playing with his beloved cousin Lubko in Berezhany. In 1994, his father Rt. Rev. Mitrat Oleh Koretski and Markian visited his aunt in Canada. It was through this short visit that Markian's dad would be asked to stay in Canada and take on a Ukrainian Catholic parish in Timmins, Ontario and later, more permanently in Montreal, Quebec. Markian would always be by his father's side, first as an altar server and then later helping him sing the liturgy. Strong faith in God was the center of Markian's family. Ukrainian traditions and customs were taught and nurtured by his parents and the wonderful Ukrainian community he grew up in. Growing up Markian was active in many clubs and sports. He played football (soccer) for numerous teams and was instrumental in organizing a Ukrainian soccer team in Montreal. Markian was an active member of CYM (Ukrainian Youth Association). He often spoke of the countless memories he had at Verhovyna, CYM kafe, and with his lifelong friends. It is through his active membership in CYM that he and Alia would meet and marry. Over the last few years Markian made his home with Alia in Grandview, Manitoba. Here he continued to play sports being a member of the FC Dauphin Rangers, the Grandview Curling Club as well as the Grandview Lakers baseball team. Markian would also become a member of the Grandview Kinsmen and was always willing to lend a helping hand in all their events. He loved the slow pace of country living and could often be seen with Alia relaxing on the deck in the evenings, golfing, bike riding or working in the garden. Markian lived life to the fullest and had three main loves in his life. His wife, Alia, his motherland, Ukraine and football (soccer). It comes as no surprise his last days were spent with the woman he loved, in the country he loved, watching his favourite team playing the sport he loved. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Markian's name to one of the following organizations or a charity of your choice: Ukrainian Youth Association Benevolent Institute, 3260, Beaubien, Montreal, Quebec H1X 3C9 or Ukrainian Youth Association Winnipeg Branch, 777 Pritchard Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2X 0E8. Burial has taken place in Montreal. Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. - John 16:22 A funeral service will be officiated by Rt. Rev. MSG. Mitrat M. Buyachok on Saturday, June 16, 2018, 9:00 a.m. at Sts. Vladimir & Olha Cathedral at 115 McGregor St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I’m deeply saddened by the loss that you and your family have encountered. It’s still hard to believe for me that this happened. Markian was such a positive and wonderful person and one of my best friends in Canada. Always cherished his company and our talks about soccer.
