GARY WILLIAM MCCORT It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Gary William McCort, on July 3, 2018 with his family by his side. Gary is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Joy, daughter Carley (Kent), son Logan (Heather) and grandson Cooper. Born in Winnipeg on April 1, 1950, Gary was raised and attended school in Elmwood. Joy and Gary were married in autumn of 1973 and shortly after settled in their home in Elmwood where they raised their family. Gary enjoyed the years he worked with the City of Winnipeg and the Public Markets at the Union Stockyards. The scouting movement was one of his passions and Gary was actively involved with Scouts Canada for over 20 years. Gary enjoyed the outdoors and made many great memories with his family during summers spent at the Lac du Bonnet cottage. Gary loved being a grandfather and treasured the time he spent at home and at the cottage with his grandson Cooper. The McCort family would like to thank the staff on GA4 at Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and compassion. Keeping with Gary's wishes, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scouts Canada or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Joy, I’m sorry to hear about Gary. He was one of the old gang at Lord Selkirk and Elmwood High School. There were a bunch of us; Werner Martens, Ronnie Benderski, Kenny Johnson, Henry Modarski, Donald “Duk” Stewart, and myself, Jim Bews. We used to walk to school and have classes together, play football and baseball at Hespeler Park, skate at Kelvin Community Club, and most of all hang out at the Dutch Maid, Mercury Drugs and especially Pete’s on Hart Ave. Throughout life you make friends at work or in the neighborhood but it seems the most lasting friends are those of your childhood. Others seem to come and go but your childhood friends are the ones you think of as your forever friends and Gary was definitely one of those. He was a quiet, likeable guy who seemed to be able to get along with everyone. Whenever I reminisce about the old days Gary is one of the ones I remember. I haven’t seen him in 45 years but I always will consider him a friend. R.I.P “Irish” - Posted by: Jim Bews () on: Jul 15, 2018

  • I wish to offer our condolences to Gary's family as I worked with him at the Public Markets. He was a great fellow and I had worked there for 10 years up until it closed down. We had many wonderful picnics and good times with all the families involved. It seems so long ago but I might even have some pictures of Gary from those days. Would have to do some searching. I'm sure all the beautiful memories you made over the years will help the family to keep going but he will be missed. - Posted by: Carol Hughes (Worked with Gary at Public Markets ) on: Jul 07, 2018
