PARK TOY WONG On Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Misericordia Place, Park Toy "George" Wong passed away peacefully at the age of 92. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, May Gui Wong, and his youngest son, Harry Wong. He will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Jim (Rita), Helen (Rick), Florence (Thomas), Fred (Phuong), Anne, and his daughter-in-law, Wendy Chiu; eight grandchildren, Sarah, Jennifer, Erin, Nicolas, Michelle, Eric, Amanda and Melissa; and nine great-grandchildren, Tyson, Jordan, Anika, Sophie, Isaac, Ryan, Colin, Hannah and Chase. George was born on November 11, 1925 in China. He met his wife May through a family relative and after a short courtship, they married on March 12, 1947. In 1952, George and May and their small son fled Communist China for Hong Kong. From there the family immigrated to Canada with help from a family uncle to start a new life. They eventually settled in Winnipeg where George worked at the Shanghai Restaurant for many years. He never forgot his family in China and continued to send money home to help support them. While working at the Shanghai Restaurant he formed many friendships with loyal customers. As well, he mentored young Chinese immigrants new to the city. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. A private Celebration of Life service was held on June 18, 2018, followed by an interment at Brookside Cemetery.
