JOHN BRUCE DELIKATNY
Date of Passing: Jun 05, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN BRUCE DELIKATNY Peacefully, and at home, John Bruce Delikatny passed away on June 5, 2018 at the age of 58. Known affectionately to his family as lilbabybrudderboofie, Bruce was known for his warmth, kindness, loyalty and sense of humour. Bruce was a man of simple tastes, but complex mind, a constant source of razor sharp humour, jokes, trivia, and bon repartee. Bruce was employed for 28 years at the Canada Border Services Agency as a member of the Contact Us team (see BS eh?, as Bruce would quip), where his humour and his wit helped countless people manouever the complex protocols of international movement of goods and people. Bruce loved his work, which he would describe as filling in the boxes that say "Do Not Write Here". Bruce was an accomplished Toastmaster, winning national and regional awards in humorous speech contests. His speech on professional wrestling as a metaphor for public speaking was performed over 100 times. He was a gifted artist and former cartoonist for the Red River Community College student newspaper. Bruce is survived by his brother Jim (Hazel, Ted, Kate) of Philadelphia, his twin sister Brenda (Kenny, Paul, Adam) of Winnipeg, and predeceased by his parents, Ted and Alison of Winnipeg. A celebration of Bruce's life will be held at the Church of St. Stephen and St. Bede, 99 Turner Avenue, Winnipeg on Saturday, July 21 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bruce's name to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. Farewell lilbabybrudder, you will be greatly missed.

The last time I met Bruce was in March 2017 when we had breakfast together at Perkins on Portage. When I picked him up at his house, he asked if I had lactose intolerance. He had just got his toes removed for diabetes. He meant 'lack-toes intolerant!' One of the hundred performances of the wresting themed humorous speech was performed at my request at the Assiniboine Toastmasters in 2014 where I was the president then. At his house I asked him how long he had been living there and I was surprised to hear the answer, "all my life," a rate thing in modern times. Bruce was the first person I notified when I was awarded the Distinguished Toastmaster award in 2015. I wanted to check with him and really did try a few times through emails, but they kept returning. It is only now, after two years of his passing, that I wanted to check the passages, and sadly, there you are, Bruce! I miss you very sadly, Bruce. Why did you go so early? - Posted by: Alex Abraham (Long time Toastmasters friend) on: Mar 27, 2020

Bruce and I had been friends for many years. We met in the early 1990s when we both worked together at the postal branch of Customs. Bruce had a very gentle soul. In all the years I've known him, I never heard him raise his voice in anger to anyone. He was a gentle giant. Bruce struggled with many health issues but that was something that he kept to himself. He was not a complainer. His sense of humor and sweet nature drew people to him. If you knew Bruce - you couldn't help but like him. I miss my friend and trust he is now free from all pain and in the hands of his maker. - Posted by: Lorraine S. (Friend) on: Jul 17, 2018

I am saddened to know of your brothers passing. I enjoyed working with Bruce as I knew him. I could always count on a witty comment when I was perturbed with something or someone and his comment to me at the time would leave me speechless. He would turn around and walk away leaving me shaking my head in confusion; and then I would get it. He would beam knowing he shared a bit of his worldly wisdom. Rest easy Bruce. - Posted by: Candace (Co-worker) on: Jul 14, 2018
