Born: Mar 10, 1932
Date of Passing: Jul 12, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOREEN GLADYS KESSLER (nee TURNER) March 10, 1932 - July 12, 2018 It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Gladys Kessler (Moonie), formally of West Hawk Lake, MB, announce her passing, on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at Health Sciences Centre, with her loving family by her side. Left to cherish her memory are her children, George (Kathie) Bones and Gina Smith; along with her grandchildren: Derek, Kevin and their mother Jan Bones; Brian, Michelle (Jeff), Laura (Chris), Steven and their father Tod Smith. Oma's great-grandchildren: Taylor, Hayden, Thomas, Camilla, Burke, Everett, Ava, James and Jack. Doreen is also survived by her sister Sylvia Kopansky and her many nieces, nephews and extended family. Doreen is predeceased by her devoted husband, Edmund (Opa) and her parents, John and Gertrude; siblings: Evelyn, Jack, Betty, Norm, Robert, Harvie and Gord. Doreen was born in Toronto and moved to Winnipeg with her two small children in 1961 to help run the Turner family business. She had tremendous foresight, one afternoon at West Hawk Lake she heard about a cottage for sale on Penniac Bay. She made the deal and then upgraded to a larger cottage in 1967. She married Edmund Kessler in 1975 and together they made the cottage a home for her children and their grandchildren. Doreen and Edmund were soulmates and shared a great love. They retired together in 1980 and spent 22 years together in the Whiteshell community helping neighbours and contributing to the construction of All Peoples Church. After Edmund passed in 2002, Doreen continued to live in their home for another 11 years much to the joy of the birds, deer and the foxes. She moved to Winnipeg in 2013 to a condo that she loved, near her daughter Gina, on the Seine River. She continued her gardening, feeding the birds and baking for family and friends. Doreen loved to travel and had adventures on five of the seven continents. In her twilight years she became a snowbird and blossomed under the Arizona sun living with her son George. She created many fond memories and loving friends. Family was everything to Doreen. She was a caring daughter, loving mother, devoted sister but she took the most pride in her cherished role as Oma. Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren were her life's crowning achievement. In keeping with Mom's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in All Peoples Church, Falcon Lake, MB. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to All Peoples Church, Box 250, Falcon Lake, MB R0E 0N0. The Coutu Family in care of arrangements: E.J. COUTU & CO. I worked with Doreen at Turners. I have a lot of fond memories, I would go on weekends to the cottage, movies, and shopping. I will always remember how she would plan a birthday surprise for the mailmen on their birthdays, as well as the staff who worked at Turners. If that lunchroom could talk it would be mostly about Doreen and her parties. She was a great boss and a greater friend. You my bud will be sadly missed by all. And take a few breaths befor you start planning parties in heaven, I am 75 and looking forward to the reunion with you and Edmond, hugs dear friend. - Posted by: Maureen Anderson, nee Fraser (Friend) on: Jul 18, 2018

Deb, Ray, Madison and Jeff (Robyn and Sebastian) send our condolences to our family members and close friends of Aunt Doreen. We all loved Aunt Do. She was an incredibly generous, considerate and loving person. She was the 'connector' in the extended Turner family and we are so thankful for her commitment to keeping our family close, hosting the first few family reunions at West Hawk Lake and always having an open door and open arms policy. We are so fortunately to have had her in our lives for these many years. She is and will always be an exemplar of a loving and giving person who rarely thought of herself. We are so appreciative of the close and supportive relationship she had with our mother/grandmother, her sister Sylvia and our entire family. She will be tremendously missed but always remembered and her legacy will live on with a strong and loving extended Turner clan carrying on what she began. We love you Aunt Doreen and send love and hugs to all of our family in Winnipeg and beyond. - Posted by: Deborah Kopansky-Giles (Niece) on: Jul 15, 2018
