ROSALIA BAUMGARTNER April 2, 1927 - July 10, 2018 Rosalia Baumgartner, née Sommerstorfer, peacefully passed away at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Peter (Evelina), Conrad (Liz), Rosemarie and Eric (Marlene), 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased in 2013 by her husband of 63 years, Peter. Rose was the eldest child of five born on the family farm (Hecht at Kaltenberg) near Hebertsfelden, Bavaria. Her surviving siblings are Theresia (Johann) and Josef. As eldest on the farm, Rose proudly drove the team of oxen. Later, she cared for and managed an elderly relative and her farm. She married Peter in 1950 and they immigrated to Edmonton in 1954 with a son in tow. She had three more children in Edmonton. Together, Peter and Rose renovated and built beautiful homes, a strong family and an inspirational bond. Rose took great pride in her finely kept homes, excellent baking, cooking and prize-winning gardens and needle craft. She enjoyed the simple indulgence of fresh bread or cake, coffee, books and good friends. The family camping trips exposed everyone to the beauty of nature throughout western Canada. She devotedly worked hard for the family including 30 years in overcoming the effects of her husband's stroke, which did not deter them from extensive travels across Canada, Australia-New Zealand, USA and their homeland, Germany. Her family thank the excellent caring staff at both Middlechurch and earlier at the Thorvaldson Care Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to a charity of your choice or the Alzheimer Society of Canada. A memorial service will be held at the Pinawa Lutheran Church in Pinawa, MB on August 4 at 2:00 p.m. A Mass for Rose will be held in Edmonton in mid-September (date TBA) and then will be interred with Peter. Mama, your great adventure in Canada is not over, it's forever.
