MORTON SHUSTER It is with a tremendous amount of sorrow that we announce that Morton (Mort) Shuster has passed away peacefully on June 21, 2018. Mort was 76 years old and is survived by his two children, Jodi and Marci who will forever love and remember their dad. Mort was born in Winnipeg in 1942. He was predeceased by his mother and father Esther and Ike Shuster, his brother Gordie Shuster, and his twin sister Phyllis Shuster. When Mort married Joyce Nasberg, he was welcomed, loved and quickly became a part of the Nasberg family. Ozzie, Mollie, Larry (Simmie), Sharon (Barry), Marshall, Courtney, Alissa and Benji were a very big part of Mort's life. Despite the unfortunate losses of his sister, brother, and parents, Mort was surrounded by so many families throughout his life. The Nasberg family, the Slutchuk family, the Leibls, and all the families he helped with at the Simkin Centre. He was never without support and love and so fortunate to have so many people that cared for him. Mort started a laundromat business called Award Cleaners and grew this company from the ground up. Mort's business was incredibly successful for many many years and he developed strong business relationships with many of the people in the garment industry in Winnipeg. He very quickly became the subject matter expert in all areas relating to his business and soon became known as the "Blue Jean King". Mort's greatest attribute was his selflessness and his willingness to go above and beyond to help anyone out who needed support. Everyone else came first and he would do anything that anyone asked of him if it meant he could help them in some way. When Mort retired he spent some of his time working with the Simkin Centre to help people with their day to day activities. He went out of his way, time and time again, to assist anyone who needed a hand. Mort was actively involved in his children's lives and spent all of his free time with his kids. Anyone would be incredibly fortunate to have a father like Mort Shuster and he will be forever loved, missed and thought of. Funeral services were held on June 24, 2018 at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery and officiated by Rabbi Altein. The Eulogy was given by Mort's closest friend, Marvin Slutchuk along with his daughter Lisa. Pallbearers were Larry Nasberg, Barry Weinstein, Sean Slutchuk, Marshall Weinstein, Benji Nasberg and Gavin Adelman. Honorary pallbearer was Alan Werier. Any donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a foundation of your choice. Yo Dad!

It was sad to read about Morton's passing, we grew up on the same block on Redwood street and can remember playing with Morton and Gordon. Of all the memories of Winnipeg I have that family still sticks out. We all had a lot of fun together. I remember one day Morton's brother Gordon lined all of us kids up against the front fence and with his BB gun shot the zippers of our winter coats. We sure were a little stupid then! We are sorry to hear of his passing but better still hearing of his successes. All the best to his family and friends. - Posted by: Randy Komar (Old neighbourhood friend) on: Jul 21, 2018
