Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOLLY VERLE MCBROOM A memorial service will be held in Reno, NV on Saturday, July 28, 2018 to say goodbye to Dolly Verle McBroom, a longtime former resident of Reno, who passed away in Los Angeles, CA on October 24, 2017. Her children decided to postpone her memorial service until summer, when Reno, the city she loved so dearly, is at its most beautiful, as well as to enable family and friends from far and near to plan to attend the celebration of her wonderful life. Dolly was born in The Pas, Manitoba, Canada on April 5, 1932. After her father, Jacob Albert Klump, passed away when she was only five years old, she and her four siblings (William Klump, Churchill Klump, Laurie Klump and Mrs. Laura Renolds, who all, sadly, predeceased her) moved with their widowed mother, Anastasia ("Nellie) Michaluk Klump, to the small farming community of Poplarfield, Manitoba, Canada, where she and her siblings spent their childhood (and by all accounts, a very happy one). As a young woman, Dolly worked for the National Harbor Board at Churchill, Manitoba, in the Canadian arctic. It was during her time in Churchill that she met her husband, Walter ("Mac") E. McBroom, who was serving in the US Army at the time. She and Mac eventually had four children: Mark McBroom, Mrs. Candace Reiff, Warren McBroom and Blake McBroom. In August, 1970, Dolly and her family moved to Reno, Nevada, where she and Mac raised their children. Upon her retirement from the Washoe County Health Department at age 65, Dolly moved to southern California to be close to her eldest child, Mark. And it was there, in southern California, that she spent the final years of her life - that is when she wasn't travelling the globe! She was an intrepid traveller, travelling across much of North America, Europe and Asia (including Israel, Korea, China and the Russian Far East). But to Dolly, Reno was always "home." She is survived by her four children, six grandchildren (Kendra, Jared, Taylor, Landon and Dmitry), and one great-grandchild (Mya). Sadly, her beloved and beautiful first grandchild, Laura, predeceased her. The memorial service will take place at Rancho San Rafael Park, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. For details, please contact Mark McBroom at 323-447-4242.
