Thinking these last few days of how she was a singing artist, Holy Ghost filled gospel singer. She was heard on NCI on Saturdays when Ray St. Germaine heard her first song. He just said I don't need to take this CD home at all to be checked out. I want to play it now. He loved her singing. He asked if she would get in touch with him because he wanted to record with her. I told my girl and she was so bashful. She had started another recording, but somehow or other her brother-in-law had misplaced it and it was never finished, unfortunately. Dad and I ordered all her CD, 100 at a time. We'd give them away free for the Glory of the Lord and our precious girl Sonia. Next year we will be ordering again 100 and adding her picture on it because this will be the last time. She never wanted us to put the picture on but now we can. I want people to see the artist that God blessed us with brother & sisters. When she started to sing she practiced one day for 7/8 hours and she said all of a sudden she felt a bursting from deep within and the power and anointing started to flow. I remember for the 11 years she was in the singing ministry she would get up and sing at Church. The anointing would flow and people were so touched. She truly was used of God in how she ministered. She would sing at times with her husband Dave Thomas also. I remember one time she tells me of her dream, "Mom I dreamt" she said, "I was singing to thousands and thousands of people, little me" and I told you, our baby, "They hear your beautiful, powerful voice all over the world in radio land and we have given your cd out free to save and the unsaved, it has been played in many funerals also." She is sheltered in the "Arms of God" where she is this day. Sharing about my girl this evening is good for me. Love MOM. - Posted by: Linda & Glen Chartrand (Mom) on: Aug 09, 2018

Sonia was always a smart young lady as she grow up. She would read just about anything and solve the problem. I as a mom would even go ask her some questions and she would give me the right information. She never wanted to go to grade 11 or 12, she said I want to do everything all by myself. So, we let her take courses at home. We did enroll her at Grant Park School, but no she had a different scenario of school and how it would be. Strong headed she was but she conquered what ever she set her heart out to do. Sonia was very private as she grew in life which made her so unique and a very special lady. She provided very well for herself, financially. Never had to worry about her. She was always particular about her hygiene and how she presented herself to the world. She would always say, "I'm like little grandma". "You sure are my girl," I would answer back. She was very classy in her own way. She would get up at 5:30 am when she was a teenager and fix her hair for school and work on it all morning. She would make sure every single hair was intact. I remember this one time Dad & I laughed at her. She came home and she says Aunty Lydia won't sit with me. I said why? Well, my girl was not afraid of her culture, she loved her bologna and bannock sandwiches. She didn't think nothing of taking this to school and sitting in the hallway eating her delish...Aunty Lydia was embarrassed to sit with her lol That's my girl, she loved her kids dearly and I know Cheyenne was her sunshine and Jordan her handsome son. As for Dave her ex-husband, then her best friend, I'm not even sure why those two ever divorced, I mean they talked to each other daily. First loves I guess...they never forgot where they belonged. Only God knows. When she went into the work force she was blessed with two great jobs. I remember when she was at INAC. She came home one day and calls us over to ask for some advice. Mom and Dad I got married for a reason, to cook for my husband/children, look after their needs but I come home all tired. I'm not fulfilling my duty as a wife and Mom. She always put her family first. I feel I would like to give my husband and children my time. For the first 5 years she did talk to INAC and stayed home - cooked and sewed decorations even for her children's rooms. Sonia even took time off for husband to get educated and to where he is today. Thanks for a faithful wife. She was very faithful to her Faith in Jesus Christ, even though she wasn't in church. She knew who to go to when she needed direction. I remember all those phone calls. "Mom he did it again," I would say, "You see my girl how much He loves you and still answered your prayers." I really believe she stayed with Mom and Dad for six months last year and that was her way of saying goodbye to us. She talked about really serious topics and I believe she knew she was leaving to go home to be with her Saviour Jesus and her sister June. Her classy grandmother. Just thinking of her today and thought I would share some of my Sonia's character. Beautiful thoughts of my girl, we were proud of her. Love Mom and Dad, the Chartrands. Mom surely misses you to the point I want to go be with you all but I need to stay for the rest. Lots of love & kisses to you my sweetness. Give a hug to Junie girl and grandma, grandpa and uncle Leonard, etc. - Posted by: Linda & Glen Chartrand (Mom & Dad) on: Aug 07, 2018

My condolences to her family and friends. I know she will be greatly missed by everyone. I have known Sonia since she first came to work at "INAC" in the late 90's when I hired her to be a database clerk for the social assistance system. Quiet, professional and very competent - she impressed us all in a short time and was hired permanently soon after. Her easy going nature combined with confidence and strength was always evident in her work and her relationships with colleagues. We had many interesting discussions throughout the years. My prayers go out to her family in this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Dorée Sabourin (Colleague) on: Jul 23, 2018
