NIKOLAOS (NIK) SAITES It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Nikolaos (Nik) Saites at 47 years of age, on July 16, 2018 in East St. Paul, Manitoba. Nik's passing is a great loss and leaves a huge void in the life of his spouse of 13 years, Gabrielle; stepsons, Kory (Rachael) and Kyle; as well as his mother Alexandra Kihn (Helmut). Nik also leaves behind his father John; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins. For the last ten years, Nik worked as an Instructor at Red River College, where he enjoyed teaching his students the joys of computing and especially the magic of Linux. Nik had a long career in Information Technology, with a particular interest in Information Security, the field in which he began his career. Nik was an avid learner throughout his life. He taught himself electronics and using these new skills, he built many interesting devices and tools. Most recently, in his usual voracious way, he took up astronomy and advanced mathematics, you could often find him working through a problem, or fine tuning his telescope. Many long and happy weekend nights were spent outside looking up at the sky. No mention of Nik is complete without including his love for his "girls," Jasmine and Macey, both rescue dogs of enormous character. He loved them unconditionally. We will miss you enormously Nik, but we take solace when looking up at the stars, to see you there. In keeping with Nik's wishes, there will be no memorial service. A private interment has taken place.
