(ELEANOR) JOAN WIEBE
Date of Passing: Jul 14, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(ELEANOR) JOAN WIEBE Peacefully on July 14, 2018, Joan Wiebe (Munro) passed away with her husband and children by her side. She is survived by her husband Gordon, children: Carolyn (Cam), Dawn (Tyler), Russell (Allison), and grandchildren Dani, Amy, Lincoln, and Cooper, as well as her sister Lois (Ralph), and niece Caitlin. She was predeceased by her father Darcy, mother Kathleen, and brother Doug. Joan was born in Edmonton, Alberta and spent the first part of her life with her family in northern Alberta. Later, they moved to Winnipeg and settled in the River Heights area. She attended Tec Voc high school and Red River College. She met the love of her life, Gordon, in 1975, and they quickly married and shortly after moved to Altona, Manitoba. When the kids were young, they moved back to Winnipeg. Joan loved spending time with her family, especially at the lake. She adored her niece Caitlin, watching her as a toddler. Joan enjoyed the outdoors, kayaking around the lake and was an active volunteer for Girl Guides of Canada as a leader and a camp advisor. As her kids grew older, she continued to volunteer and joined the board for the Manitoba Deaf Blind Association. Joan loved being a grandma, her grandkids called her Cookie Grandma because she would make sure their favourites were ready for them. Joan wanted to take care of and watch over all of us. She was ready to help with whatever we needed and was always available to talk. We will remember your kind spirit, your friendship and your love. The family would like to thank the Concordia Hospital staff and the Maples Personal Care staff for their kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to E-Quality Communication Centre of Excellence (ECCOE) or the Resource Centre for Manitobans who are Deaf-Blind to establish the Joan Wiebe Access Fund. A celebration of life service will be held on Friday July 27, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Avenue West. Our sincere sympathies on the passing of your Mom and Wife. We will miss the impromptu visits with Joan. She loved to hear a story over the fence and always asked about everyone. Even though my Dad isn't their neighbour anymore we had many years of having the best neighbours ever! Joan always had an eye out for my Dad's safety when my Mom passed away. That was greatly appreciated. I also had the pleasure of attending some Girl Guide functions with Joan. She was very passionate about everything she did! We will truly miss her! Love Bob Monkman, Karen and Kevin Jonasson and family. - Posted by: Karen Jonasson (Past neighbour) on: Jul 25, 2018
