DR. ARTHUR FRANKEL 1923 - 2018 Arthur Frankel passed away on July 8, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, Sara and Samuel, his sister Zelda and his beloved wife Leah. He is survived by his sons, Bernie, David and Harvey; daughter-in-law Susan, and grandsons, Matthew, Robby (Rachel) and Jed. Arthur, or Artie, Dad and affectionately Zaida as he was known, was born on April 25, 1923 in Winnipeg, where he grew up and met and married his wife Leah. They moved to Chicago where he attended Loyola Dental School and then to Weyburn, SK where he established his first dental practice. There, he and Leah's three sons were born. The family returned to Winnipeg in 1957 and remained there for all their lives. Arthur's professional career lasted over 40 years and many of his loyal patients remained with him until his retirement. Retirement brought Arthur time to spend at the family cottage in Gimli and plenty of hours for learning how to sail. He and Leah were also able to enjoy winter vacations in warmer climates. Everyone who knew Arthur agreed he was among the warmest, kindest and most dignified people they had ever met. Arthur was happiest when he was able to help others, especially those who knew and loved him. His huge smile and warmth could fill a room and he had time for all of us - big and little - engaged with a patience and interest that was uniquely compelling, and so inviting. We will miss him dearly and reflect upon his memory with so much warmth and light. Arthur's funeral and interment were held at Rosh Pina Cemetery on July 10, 2018.

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I remember Dr Frankel and family with great fondness as our neighbours on Niagara Street. My earliest memory of Dr. Frankel was his tenacity to mow the lawn faithfully with a manual push-mower, long after everyone had gas-powered ones. My parents would remark about this every time they saw it! Leah and Artie and my parents knew each other in Saskatchewan, and were very fond of one another. Dr. Frankel always had a warm hello, smile, and such a kind demeanour. I am sorry that I have been out of town, and was therefore unable to attend the funeral. Sincere condolences to Bernie, David, and Harvey. May his and your mother’s memories be a blessing. - Posted by: Enid Barnes (Old neighbour) on: Jul 29, 2018
