DOROTHY MARGARET (JEAN) WILSON (nee MACDONALD) Surrounded by her loving family at the end of a beautiful life for which she was very grateful, DM Jean Wilson passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at the age of 77 years. Jean will be missed by her husband of 51 years of marriage, Richard; their children, Laura Wilson, Pam Wilson and Katie Van Ryckeghem (her husband Chris); and granddaughters, Nicole and Jessica. She is also survived by her sisters, Beth and Maureen; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who she loved and adored. She will be welcomed into heaven by her Mom and Dad, Marge and Kirk MacDonald; brother Kim; brother-in-law Jim and her granddaughter Amanda Van Ryckeghem who is standing there wide-eyed, big smile, arms extended and curling her fingers, waving Jean in for a long-awaited snuggle hug. Jean was born in Winnipeg and lived here much of her life. She held a variety of jobs including Entertainment Reporter for the Winnipeg Tribune, Health Sciences Centre Medical Records and Support Staff at the University of Manitoba Department of Economics. She always said the most fun she had in life was raising their family with her husband whom she loved dearly.... until they had grandchildren, which proved to be even more fun. She was an avid reader, an enthusiastic traveller, an amateur quilter and someone who had an incredible ability to make beautiful lifelong friendships. Jean was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and drew strength from her faith. Jean's funeral service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 61 Picardy Place. Words cannot express our gratitude to the St. Boniface 6th floor nurses and health care aides who were not only professional, but showed Mom such kindness and compassion. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation, Ronald McDonald House or the Charleswood Senior Knitters. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Jean was in the book club that I belonged to. I was very sorry to hear that she had died this summer and would like to pass on my condolences to her family. I do not know your address or I would have written a note. Jean always had something interesting to contribute to the discussions. I admired her fortitude during her cancer. - Posted by: Jean (Friend) on: Sep 17, 2018

  • I met Jean just after my cancer diagnosis in 1998 during water exercises designed for breast cancer survivors. We became friends and I always appreciated her knowledge and advice. She helped guide Tannis and I when we first started the Selkirk & District Breast Cancer Support Group. I will remember her with fondness. May you find comfort in knowing her spirit will be with you always. My sincere heartfelt condolences to your family. Wendy McLeary - Posted by: Wendy McLeary (Friend) on: Aug 27, 2018

  • I’m saddened to hear of Jean’s passing and sorry that I missed her memorial. Jean brightened every class she attended with her quick wit and smart observations. I’m grateful that I had to the chance to visit with her when she attended a dinner in June at the end of our class session. I will always remember Jean with fondness and am grateful that she was part of my life. - Posted by: Ruth Baines (Pilates instructor) on: Aug 08, 2018

  • I was saddened to hear of Jean’s passing. I knew her well through the Chemosavvy Dragon Boat team. She was a vibrant, happy person who contributed so much to everything she was involved in.
