Born: Sep 20, 1928
Date of Passing: Jul 30, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA PROSKEN On July 30, 2018, the close knit community of Sandy Lake lost one of its pioneers and the Blue Jays lost one of their most devoted fans. She was born to Tom and Jessie Paraschuk on September 20, 1928 and enjoyed a fun Sandy Lake childhood with her older sister Phyllis (Walter) Psooy and her younger brother Mickey (Jean) Paraschuk. Her world changed when she met and married John Prosken and had three children, Harold (Joyce) Prosken, Julie (Ed) Alexiuk and Brenda (David) Shepherdson. Olga took special joy in her grandchildren, Jeff (Marg) and Mary Joy Prosken, Nick (Julie) and Luke (Chelsea) Alexiuk and Tess Shepherdson, and her great-grandchildren, Dominic, Stone, Zach and Josh Prosken, and Anders Alexiuk. Her interests included growing large vegetable gardens, fishing, baseball, curling, crafts, playing cards and dice. Every year she enjoyed participating in Sandy Lake's Western Day Parade. She took great pride in her many years of work as a nurse's aide at the Sandy Lake Nursing Home where she was later promoted to Housekeeping Supervisor. After John passed away, Olga married Peter Prosken and they enjoyed several years of travelling and companionship. Before her passing, it was evident that Olga's other "family" were the residents and staff at the Sandy Lake Nursing Home where she found great comfort and kindness. Her children will always be grateful for the compassion and care given to our mom - she will be greatly missed by all of us but we take comfort in knowing that her lively spirit, mischievous nature and strength of character lives on in all that knew her. Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sandy Lake at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment in Parish Cemetery. Rae's Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Love you Ma! Vichnaya Pamyat.
