KENNETH GORDAN INNISS (BRANKER) February 12, 1932 - July 28, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ken Inniss, who died peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Selkirk Regional Health Centre. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his daughter, Yvonne and her wife, Jan; his son, Robb; his son, Ian and his wife, Chrissy, and their children, Jayden and Keira; as well as his Saskatchewan family, daughter Jo-Ann Cox and her husband, Dean, and their children, Chris, Ashley, Amber and Vickie. Ken also leaves behind his sisters, Grace, Norma, Laureen (Frank) and Wendy, and brothers, Reynold (Laurine), Orville (Cicely) and Llewellyn. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Eustace and Gertrude Branker, and sisters, Gwen, Sybil, Sylvie and Barbara. Ken was born and raised in Barbados, the fourth of 12 children. Once he finished school, he became a teacher. Looking for adventure and other opportunities, Ken travelled to Canada in 1958 to pursue a career in nursing. He had a variety of jobs at first, eventually settling in Selkirk where he was accepted into the psychiatric nursing program at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. It was here that he met Alice, and they were married in 1964. After graduating as an RPN, Ken went on to earn his RN and a Bachelor of Arts. He continued to work at SMHC for 36 years. An accomplished handyman, Ken was able to plumb, wire or build just about anything. More than once, his kids asked him to come over to help repair or renovate something in their homes, and his skilful work was much appreciated. Ken also spent time in his garden. He was quite proud of the bounty it produced, particularly his beans and beets, which were enjoyed by many. Above all though, Ken will be remembered for how much he loved talking to people. Whether at home, the bank or Canadian Tire, Ken looked forward to seeing people, teasing them, or chatting about politics, eager to share his interpretations of the most recent newscasts. The family would like to thank the staff at Selkirk Regional Health Centre and the palliative care and home care personnel of the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority for their support and excellent care. A special thank you is extended to Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje for his kindness and compassion during this difficult time. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Gilbart's Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk.
