ELISE CECILIA BATSON Elise Cecilia Batson, aged 84, died peacefully in the comfort of her home on August 7, 2018, after a brief struggle with cancer. Elise was born in 1934, in Sainte Foy, QC and was later married to Harold Nelson Batson. Elise is survived by her seven children, Roddy (Karen), Ricky, Rochelle, Rozlyn, Randy (Norma), Raymond and Rinda; as well as 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. Elise also has numerous nieces, nephews, and a number of other relatives and close friends. Elise lived in Montreal, later moving to Winnipeg in 1985, to be closer to her children. Elise dedicated her life to parenting her children until they were of school age, then later finding employment working and managing "Steve's Place" a music and record store, working in three locations: Ville LaSalle, Dorval, and Cote St. Luc, QC. During her time off she also attended Champlain College and pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at McGill University. Elise Batson was a very strong and determined person having brought up seven children, with one child having Cerebral Palsy. She accomplished this while also working and attending school at the same time. She was very outspoken and a person to be recognized and respected. Elise loved her children and remained dedicated to her family right up until her passing. Elise was so giving and loving over the many years, often caring for her grandchildren by providing childcare, meals, or whatever else was needed. Elise was also a very strong and vocal advocate for her children often taking on the government in order to get her daughter Rozlyn the care and attention she required. Elise was predeceased by her husband Harold (1985), her sister Din Jones, and her grandson Rickardo Brian Batson. Elise was not one to fuss over herself and requested only a small service be held for her family and friends to remember and reflect on her life. The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Cross Church, 1787 Logan Ave., Winnipeg, MB at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or Canadian Cerebral Palsy Society.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Thank you for the many long years, all the lessons and values you instilled in me, and some of the greatest arguments. We were so much alike. Also for allowing me to spend my time caring for you near the end of your journey. We laughed and joked and still argued and yes we watched a lot of TV to pass the time. Our go to favorite "Say yes to the dress". I would hear you say "oh god,we need more channels, not again, but to have these great memories of you, no price tag, could match, with sadness and happiness you finished your journey beside me as you waved and left, knowing it was all a job well done. To you not good bye but thank-you. Merci mama----j'taime - Posted by: Rochelle (Daughter) on: Aug 09, 2018
