TED (EDWIN CHARLES) NORRINGTON October 3, 1944 - July 29, 2018 After a fun loving, adventurous 73 year life journey, sadly, Ted peacefully passed away after a year long courageous battle with lung cancer. His loving wife Roma, of 23 years, was by his side. Ted was predeceased by his parents, Leslie and Margaret (née Tinney) Norrington, as well as numerous aunts and uncles. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Trevor (Jane) of Chicago, IL, USA and Kyle (Colby) of New York, NY, USA; stepdaughters, Melissa Meier (Eric) and Sandi Harkin (Jason) all of Leduc, AB; grandchildren, Kasia, Chloe, Hugh, Beau, Ethan, Erissa, Colton, Arla and Elizabeth; cousin and past business partner Bob Jenkins (Bev) of Brandon, MB; sister Janis Yea (Hong) and nieces, Shelly (Emile) and Deb all of Winnipeg; along with numerous cousins in Winnipeg and Camrose, AB. Ted was born and raised in Winnipeg attended Elmwood High School where he met and remained friends with many people over the years. He was always proud of being "an Elmwood Boy" and gave back to his high school in the form of being a volunteer member of the Elmwood High Alumni Committee. After graduation he continued his education goals by attending Winnipeg United College (1962 to 1966), where he received his Bachelor of Arts. After graduating University he decided to pursue a career as a Chartered Accountant so he joined the team at Tousse Ross earning that credential in 1970. Ted was very proud of achieving his goal of becoming a CA. He built an impressive career with his designation. He owned his own businesses, was partnerships in businesses and also worked as a comptroller and finance manager for a range of public and private sector organizations throughout his career. In 2013, he retired from the Province of Manitoba Vital Statistics Agency, where he was Director of Finance. Shortly after retirement Ted and Roma moved from Winnipeg to Leduc, Alberta to be closer to family. Throughout his personal life and career, Ted met many people along the way - some became lifelong friends who he cherished dearly. He was the social convener for our group of friends, and an excellent dinner party host, he was also a great conversationalist, to the extent that Roma often teased him that he could "talk to a stump". He loved to have fun and make people laugh with his dry sense of humour. Starting in his youth, Ted was a passionate, competitive sportsman, both as a participant and an observer. As a teenager he was referred to as "a hell of a hockey player". As much as he loved the game he did turn down an opportunity to play for the farm team for the Boston Bruins, he was drafted at 17, however chose to pursue higher education for his future. He never had any regrets nor did he look back, he chose to express his love of the game through coaching at the Valley Gardens Community Club, it's at this time he passed on his love for the game to his sons. Later his admiration was expressed though never missing a game played by his beloved Winnipeg Jets. Throughout his life he played and observed many sports, baseball, loved the Toronto Blue Jays - he often took in a game while visiting Kyle in Toronto. He enjoyed watching golf more than he ever played and of course NFL football. When the boys were teens NFL Sunday was never missed and always fun times were had by all involved. Ted also loved his dogs Fitzy and Newton, both English Springer Spaniels, they brought much joy and laughter into his life, he spent many hours at the Kildonan dog park with Newton. Ted truly lived his life his way, and will be sorrowfully missed by all who loved him. His family extends their gratitude to the medical staff of St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Edmonton, Alberta for the compassionate care given to Ted during his illness; as well as the many friends and family who travelled to Leduc to support Roma and Ted during this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held in Winnipeg on September 28, 2018, for close friends, school friends and family. A venue to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Ted's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

To Trevor, Kyle, Roma, family present and past, and friends. Our condolences and deepest sympathies on the passing of Ted, known affectionately as Raunch for his underlying instant energy. Our friendship began at United College, where in our first university class together we became instant friends. That friendship quickly transcended to our wives and family. Ted will be remembered for his quick wit, always smiling face with that unique Ted chuckle, delivering some form of humour with all conversations. Sports infinity included the great game of ping-pong, As he could starting out with any sport. Ted could unexpectedly moved quicker than a gazelle. We Love and will miss you dear friend but never forget. Rod and Caroline Westmacott - Posted by: Rod & Carolyn Westmacott (Friends) on: Oct 08, 2018

Janis, I was so sad to see Ted’s obituary in last Saturday’s Free Press. I remember what I went through when Stu died so I have a lot of empathy for how you and your family are feeling right now. Ted was 2 days younger than myself and other than my back issue I still feel pretty young, so seeing his obit was very surprising. We’re very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Barb & Ken Sutyla (Friends of the family) on: Aug 13, 2018

We met Ted many years ago when our children were very young and very much involved in the programs at Valley Garden Community Center. After Ted moved from the area we lost touch but he was often thought off. Our condolences to his wife, Roma, his sons, Trevor and Kyle and other members of his family. May fond memories of your loved one sustain during these most difficult times. - Posted by: Len and Vicki Lazaruk (Valley Gardens neighbourhood friends) on: Aug 11, 2018
