DR. PIERRE FRANCOIS ROLAND CANTIN Dr. Pierre Francois Roland Cantin passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 4, 2018. He was born on August 1, 1928 in Mahebourg, Mauritius and spent his first 21 years on this island paradise. The Mauritian government granted him a scholarship to study medicine at the London Hospital, in London, England. Right from the very beginning, our Dad was very passionate about his profession and was dedicated to serving his patients day and night. It was also at the London Hospital that he met his life partner, Hilary Ingrid Chandler, and they married on December 15, 1956. They lived on remote tropical islands and eventually moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba on April 4, 1962. After nine months in Winnipeg, the family relocated to St. Pierre-Jolys, where our father practiced medicine until he retired in 2000. He loved family practice and was very involved with the Manitoba Medical Association (MMA) in different capacities over many years, serving as its President in 1985. Dad had three children, Roland (Andrea Borchert-Cantin), Sophie (Douglas Kayler) and Jacqueline; as well as seven grandchildren: Christopher (Heather), Stephanie, Allison (Denis-Michel), Nicholas, Catherine, Jason and Marque. We want to thank: the doctors, nurses and the support staff of the St. Boniface and Victoria Hospitals; Fr. Colin Peterson for spiritual support; Jenna Moore and the staff and residents of the Canoe Club for their care and support to our family; and Dr. Cameron Lowden, who took such great care of Dad over the years - treating another physician cannot be easy, but Dr. Lowden was able to put him at ease, for which we are extremely grateful. As he requested, our Dad has been cremated. There will be a private family service.
