MARCEL DAENINCK Surrounded by his family, Marcel Daeninck boarded his 'Golden Rocket' peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2018, after a diagnosis of an aggressive cancer two weeks earlier. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Louise and children: Paul (Monica Furer), Tom (Karen), Liz, Anne (Rob Young) and Stephen (Kathy), as well as his sister Irene Lemoine. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Christopher, Michelle, Felicia, Cami, Lauren, Morgan and Declan. He was predeceased by his parents, Jan and Eliza Daeninck; brothers, Joe, Maurice and Andre Daeninck; as well as his sister Yvonne Meechan. Marcel was born in St. Boniface and developed lifelong connections with many members of the Belgian community. After graduation from Provencher School, his adventures led to Northern Manitoba, chasing his fortunes at the Moak Lake Nickel Mine. Following his experience up north, he returned to Winnipeg to complete Teachers College. He married the girl of his dreams in 1961 and they started a family soon after. Marcel's career in education started as a teacher at Glenlawn Collegiate and he completed a degree in education at the University of North Dakota. After seven years of teaching business education, he was recruited by the Department of Education as a consultant, working in various capacities until his retirement in 1993. Louise and Marcel then took over the Continuing Education Program for the St. Boniface School Division, retiring the second time at 65 in 2002. With their retirement finally in full swing, Marcel and Louise enjoyed travelling all over North America, always dedicating time to their family and grandchildren. Marcel's ongoing and total devotion to caring for Louise and his family over the years has been a model of love for all of us. Marcel's involvement in the community was extensive, volunteering at St. Bernadette's Parish in many capacities. He also was a lifelong curler, playing his last end this spring. Marcel was an active board member with the Belgian Credit Union and Red River Co-op for many years. In 2011, Red River Co-op presented him with a Lifetime Achievement award for his tireless work as a volunteer. The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Penner for his compassionate care in Marcel's final days, as well as the staff involved at the Health Sciences Centre. In keeping with Marcel's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Road with a reception to follow at Niakwa Country Club, 620 Niakwa Road. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Marcel's honour to CancerCare Manitoba or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.ca

Our deepest sympathy to Louise and family on the passing of Marcel. I enjoyed the time I spent with Marcel while I was General Manager of Red River Co-op from 2003-2014. Marcel was always dedicated to making decisions that would benefit the members. His knowledge and the past stories he shared with the Board and management were always helpful in moving forward. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family of Marcel and Louise, and to his sister Irene. Our friendship goes back to the mid 1940's when we were children. A truer and more honest person would be hard to find and I was lucky to have had this family as friends and neighbors. Many good memories and hard to say goodbye to old friends. God bless.
